LARGE Vintage 20th Century French tourist art original

oil painting

$145

Offered for sale is this large vintage 20th Century original Tourist Art oil painting (canvas on masonite), most likely French in origin and dating from the 1950’s to 1970’s. The signature is undecipherable, however there were any number of jobbing artists making works in this style (generally for sale around Montmatre).

In a broadly ‘Impressionist’ style, the painting presents an imaginary 19th Century Parisian winter-time street scene (probably during the 1880’s to 1890’s). There is a great degree of action and life depicted - from couples/individuals strolling, a horse and cart to the warm glow of light from cafes.

A fun decorator’s piece for anyone wanting a retro look to their home or business.

In very good original condition. There is some occasional patination to the frame and canvas, as expected from a correct vintage item and not modern reproduction.

Measures (framed) 63cm (h) x 118cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can post at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century Australian-themed thermometer

$25

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century cast-metal decorative wall-plaque thermometer, made post-WW2 and estimated as dating from the 1950’s to 1960’s. Similar examples were often made in Germany or Japan (as both were rebuilding their manufacturing capacity after 1945), so are potential countries of origin.

Formed in patinated metal, the design features a prominent stylised image of an Australian First Nations man holding a spear and carrying an incised boomerang. To his right and above his head are two large ‘imagined’ First Nations shields with angular/geometric shapes (that perhaps have taken their inspiration from Gunnai/Kurnai examples, however also look almost Art Deco). To the left is a stippled tree with recess for the Celsius/Fahrenheit thermometer (which works but its accuracy is untested).

This is sold within the context of being an item of social history and no offence is intended.

In very good original condition. Over time a warm patination has developed, appropriate for this being a vintage piece and not modern reproduction. There is a small split (visible from the reverse), that is hard to see but noted for a full item description.

Measures 15.5cm (h) x 8.5cm (w) x 1.2cm (d) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can post at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase (as any sale is final).
