Beach/Seaside Items
Living on the world's largest island, I've come to appreciate the important role our love of beach
and ocean has had upon our historical and popular culture. Given the human tendency to exploit without thought for consequence I'm glad we now seek to protect, rather than harm our precious natural environment.

Vintage 20th Century Hong Kong mechanical music box copper viking longship
$45
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Hong Kong-made (pre-Chinese takeover) novelty music box mechanical copper longship, dating from the 1970’s to 1980’s.
Created in the form of a stylised Viking longship set over rolling waves, with a Japanese-made Sankyo music box movement that both drives the tune (plays a gentle lullaby) as well as gently rocking the ship from side to side. Over time the copper has nicely patinated to a unique finish.
The music box works were gently cleaned, take a good wind and work properly.
A fun and charming decorative item, perfect for any lover of history, kitsch or a child’s bedroom.
Measures 30.5cm (h) x 22cm (l) x 8cm (w) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century Dutch Victoria Biscuit Company pressed metal tin
$25
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Dutch pressed metal biscuit tin, made by the Victoria Biscuit Company (VBC) and most likely dating from the 1950’s. Founded in 1896 and based in Dordrecht from 1908, VBC very quickly became a highly successful manufacturer of both chocolates and biscuits, often sold in a wide range of decorative and novelty tins. The VBC name disappeared in 1975 when the company was taken over by a rival manufacturer. Some of the original paper label remains underneath.
The unusual and attractive hexagonal tin is embossed on all sides (and lid) with images that tell the story of 16-17th Century Dutch naval trading history. From the ‘discovery’ of the Far East, then planning, undertaking a successful journey and eventual return to port (that’s if they didn’t get shipwrecked, attacked by pirates, lured to their doom by mermaids (dugongs), mutiny, etc, etc, etc). Particularly fun to note is the drunken session (Panel 1) that seems to inspire the whole process (some classic dry Dutch sense of humour there), ‘hey, who’s heard of the Spice Islands – let’s go there!’.
Perfect for storing a variety of items (yes, including biscuits) or as a purely decorative kitchenalia item.
In very good condition. Over time the metal has lightly patinated, reflecting its use by previous owners and confirming it being a vintage item and not modern reproduction.
Measures (with lid fitted) 23cm x 23cm x 7.5cm (h) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Vintage 20th Century Italian HMS Bounty etched glass
ice bucket and six matching tumblers by CERVE
$45
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Italian ‘Bounty’ etched-glass ice bucket and tumbler set, made by CERVE and most likely dating from the 1980’s to 1990’s. CERVE stated in 1953 and continues producing high-quality glassware today.
A curious and fun bit of nautical-themed bar accoutrements – very unusual to have the 18th Century mutiny of an English warship memorialised by an Italian glass company! HMS Bounty was of course captained by the (in)famous Captain Bligh; who then became an early governor of colonial New South Wales before being again (ironically) deposed from office during the 1808 Rum Rebellion.
All glass pieces have a repeated ‘Bounty’ title-plate and image of the ship (from two different views) etched onto each side.
Great decorative and useful set for any home-bar, pool-room, business (eg hipster dive bar) or lover of naval/tall ships history. Perfect for any descendant of the Bounty Mutineers – but maybe not Captain Bligh!
The set includes a set of original plastic ice-tongs and six tumblers. No cracks, chips or damage.
RARE Vintage 20th Century German RMS(SS) Orion bakelite pocket knife
$225
Offered for sale is this rare vintage 20th Century German-made ‘SS Orion’ steel and Bakelite, most likely dating from 1935 to the late 1940’s. Both are factory stamped ‘Rostfrei’ (rust free) and with the trident hallmark for famous Solingen maker Ed Wüsthof (founded in 1814 and still in business today). Launched in 1934 (by remote control from Brisbane!) and sailing until 1963, SS (also RMS) Orion had a distinguished career as both a ground-breaking-design passenger liner and troopship seconded by the Royal British Navy from 1939 to 1946 (over her lifetime carrying over 500,000 passengers). She is also remembered fondly as one of the most prominent post-WW2 Australian-European migration ships.
The dual-sided design features a stylised representation of the vessel on one side, and the wording ‘S.S. Orion’ on the reverse. Set in a brass inner are two.
A rare and desirable collectable for any Australian/WW2 maritime enthusiast, social/immigration historian or collector. Or a wonderful memory of anyone who’s parents migrated to Australia on this iconic vessel!
Any potential purchaser will be asked for ID to prove their age (it will not be sold to anyone under 18 years of age).
In good original condition. The Bakelite has some patination, and larger is missing a small portion of the tip.
Measures (folded) 8.5cm (l) x 1.5cm (w).
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century German? silver and marcasite
Spanish Galleon brooch
$70
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century silver and macasite pin brooch, most likely made in Germany and dating from the 1950’s to 1960’s. Weight is 9 grams.
The design is most wonderfully absurd – a Spanish treasure galleon in full sail! It’s depicted in a high level of detail using an unusual ¾ perpective, heading ‘away’ from the viewer and ‘towards’ the wearer.
In very good overall condition. There are three marcasites missing (as pictured) – which any competent jeweller could source and re-set; the safety pin is also absent (again, could be returned if felt needed).
Measures 4.5cm (h) x 2.5cm (w) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Due to weight and risk of damage during freight, local collection only or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century Australian clam shell pottery bowl
by EG Greenway
$55
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Australian ‘E G Greenway’ glazed art pottery bowl, most likely dating from the 1950’s. Established by Herbert Greenway in Blackburn (Melbourne) in 1949, the firm produced a widely-successful range of domestic and art pottery (often with fantastical and slightly ‘odd’ designs).
With perhaps a gentle nod to original 16th (and later 19th) Century Pallissy ware, this amusing design features a large central clam-shell bowl with three supporting barnacle feet. The bowl has been finished in a soft sandstone-coloured glaze.
Apart from pure decoration, this piece offers multiple uses – it could hold water (to float candles or flowers), contain pou-pourri, act as a candy/sweets bowl or even food service (eg salad).
No cracks, chips or damage.
Measures 23.5cm (l) x 17cm (w) x 12cm (h) approximately.
Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. RARE antique 19th Century (early-1820's) French etching of Warrane/Sydney Harbour
$275
Offered for sale is this rare antique 19th Century French original hand-coloured etching of Warrane (Sydney) Harbour, dating from the mid-1820’s. The artist was Pierre Eugene Aubert (1789 to 1847), with the plate engraved and published by Gilquin Dupain (19 Rue de la Calandre, Paris).
An early view of the fledgling settlement, with the newly-finished Saint James’ church prominent. This most likely means Aubert created the image looking south-west from Cremorne across the harbour. To the right of Saint James’ is Bennelong Point - one day to become the location of the globally iconic Sydney Opera House.
If you’re one of the lucky few that live along Sydney Harbour (even more so if you have this particular multi-million view), this rare outsider’s glimpse of early Australian colonial history is a must-have.
In excellent original condition at 200+ years old.
Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. The unusual design features a dolphin with a seriously angry look ... ‘What’s that Flipper? We’ve stuffed up the oceans, put you in entertainment parks and took all the fish?'. Well I’d be *(^*$#^ angry too!!’.

Set on a classical urn form with squared base, the double-sided design features a stylised 3-masted clipper ship in full sail.
