Perfect for use at home, business or purely decorative.

In very good overall condition. All players are present, every arm works properly. The board was carefully cleaned, however the players have had their patina (years of dust) respected.

A rare and highly-desirable item, hard to find in Australia. Perfect for anyone wanting to get all old school hip-hop styling! A quality, well-constructed garment.

In very good overall original condition, no rips or tears. The stitching to the lining is in excellent condition, no pulls. Vintage 20th Century (1938) Australian silverplate F Grant Trophy for the Ascot Vale Football Club

Offered for sale is this unique vintage 20th Century Australian silver-plate presentation trophy (the F Grant Trophy), awarded by the Ascot Vale Football Club (AVFC) in 1938 to W Keefe for Best Utility Player. Research found a Keefe (playing for Ascot Vale) noted as Best on Ground on 5 July 1937 and both a W and R Keefe (possibly a relative) recorded as Best Players in the Grand Final (against Fawkner District) on 12 September 1938. The AVFC was created in 1898 and in 1930 became a founding member of the Essendon District Football League. As the (now) Ascot Vale Panthers, it continues to be a strong team within the local Melbourne competition.

What lifts a relatively simple item of domestic silverplate into something very interesting is the dedication. Given that 1938 was only one year before the declaration of WW2, there’s a fair chance that W Keefe and many of his club mates enlisted in the war effort. Both their potential football careers and lives (if they survived) would be forever impacted. A poignant and rare collectable for any Victorian football historian/enthusiast.

In fair original condition. There is patination and verdigris, as you’d expect from a used item and not modern reproduction. Yes, the price takes this into account.

UNIQUE Vintage 20th Century (1939) Australian silverplate Henley Regatta trophy beaker for Lightweight Eights to
T O'Donoghue (Cox) of Corio Bay Rowing Club

Offered for sale is this unique vintage 20th Century Australian silverplate presentation trophy for the Melbourne Amateur Regatta (now the Australian Henley Regatta), dating from November 1939. First held in 1860 on the Birrarung (Yarra) river, this rowing event would become (after the Kings Cup) a premier annual fixture (and hugely popular social event) with teams competing from interstate and overseas. Despite the declaration of WW2 in September 1939, the regatta proceeded on 4 November (with over 100,000 people attending) but would be its last occurrence until 1946. Due to a dispute (caused by a Melbourne Board of Works by-law), for this one time it was moved to Albert Park lake. This significant international sporting event continues to be held every February. Marked ‘EPNS’ on the base (the maker could not be established).

Established in 1873 the Corio Bay Rowing Club (CBRC) was originally based on the bay itself, relocating for a period of time to the Barwon river (during the 1920/30’s) before returning to the bay until the mid-1960’s - then permanently making a home at its current spot on the Barwon. According to club history, 1939 was the first time the CBRC won the Lightweight Eights at the Melbourne Amateur Regatta. Mentioned on the trophy, Cox T O’Donoghue is recorded as competing at the Ballarat Regatta on Sunday 3 May 1940 (at which the CBRC won the Dick Mitchell Maiden Eights and the Major Eric Brind memorial cup).

Hand-engraved onto a beaker form, in an ovoid shield the primary dedication awards the CBRC for winning the LW (Lightweight) Maiden Eights. On its reverse is the Coat of Arms for the City of Melbourne (being the older version, with the whale and bull now switched positions).

Given that WW2 was underway, there’s a reasonable assumption that O’Donoghue and many of his CBRC crew would eventually enlist in the war effort. Both their potential sports careers and lives (if they survived) would be forever impacted. This unique piece is a poignant and important collectable for any rowing historian/enthusiast or sports collector.

In good original condition, no dents or dings. Some wear to the plating has occurred (as pictured), as expected from a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction.

Measures 10cm (h) x 7.7cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.

RARE Vintage 20th Century Australian AFL Richmond Tigers Canterbury jersey

Offered for sale is this rare vintage 20th Century Australian AFL Richmond Tigers sports jersey, made by Canterbury and estimated as dating from the early-to-mid-1990’s. Established in Aotearoa (New Zealand) in 1904, this iconic global sports clothing manufacturer initially created highly-regarded undergarments before supplying ANZAC uniforms during WW1 (after which the company was chosen to design and make the All Blacks rugby uniform). Post-WW2 it went on to export rugby clothing globally, before also branching into sports leisure-wear and continuing operation today.

The well-made design features a multi-part garment construction in black and yellow polyester/cotton with polychrome printed white lapels (having the AFL logo appearing vertically). The right breast features the Canterbury logo in white and on left, the Richmond tigers logo and wording ‘RICHMOND FOOTBALL CLUB’ underneath.

In very good to excellent overall original condition. There is light patination appropriate for this being a correct vintage item and not modern reproduction.
