Vintage 20th Century Papua New Guinea Sepik River hand-carved hardwood mask

$95

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century hand-carved Papua New Guinea hand-carved hardwood mask, most likely from the Sepik River (coastal) area and created post-WW2.

Using three dimensions the artist has skilfully depicted a human face in elongated form surrounded by an intricately detailed ceremonial headress. The headress is particulary noteworthy, especially the delicacy of the lower portion and border notchwork. The facial features are similarly delicate and superbly detailed. The back has also been hollowed by chisel.

In very good original condition. There is patination appropriate for this being a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction. Has never been drilled for hanging (which in itself is interesting).

Measures 28cm (h) x 13cm (w) x 6.5cm (d) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description. Will not be sold to Rebel Scum without authorisation.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. As with any vintage watch I recommend allowing for a service. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.

LARGE vintage 20th Century Japanese hand-carved wooden Buddha

$400

Offered for sale is this substantial and elegant carved wooden Buddha. Personally imported from Japan, where it was sold as a vintage 20th century item. Estimating from the patina and style of carving, this would most likely date post-WW2.

Has some lovely patina and great presence, the Buddha’s face being especially restful. With its large size it sits well in a hallway and have often decorated it with silk scarves (not included) as these make for an interesting contrast depending on colours and design mood.

Both a stunning venerative and decorative item. Suitable for home or business such as health spa, restaurant, etc.

Has some weight at 6kg and height, measuring 90cm (h) x 20cm (w) x 15cm (d) (both approximately).

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

UNIQUE Vintage 20th Century Italian presentation sculpture for the Hon Andrew McCutheon MLA

$45

Offered for sale is this unique vintage 20th Century Italian bronze statue/plaque, presented to prominent Victorian policitian the Honourable Andrew McCutcheon (b.1931 d.2017). Signed 'Giuliani'. Unfortunately despite extensive research, no further information could be identified about this artist.

A unique piece of Australian-Italian history!

A highly-regarded and respected figure (yes, policitians used to be like this), the award dates from the time when he was the MLA for St Kilda. The Honourable Andrew McCutcheon lead a life of public service, campaigning for Aboriginal reconcilliation, womens rights, public housing and the environment - eventually rising to the position of Victorian Attorney-General. Amongst an already busy public life, he obviously found time to become involved with recovery efforts from the 1980 Irpana earthquake in southern Italy - resulting in this award recognising his contribution.

The design features a one-piece cast bronze raised disk form with applied decoration. The front depicts a stylised map of Australia with Italy combined (inset with two gems highlighting Naples and Salerno), and the artist’s signature ‘Giuliani’ The dedication translates to:

To

Hon. A.Mc Cutcheon

The populations of Naples

Salerno Benevento Avellino

Potenza affected by the 1980 earthquake

with eternal gratitude

1980   1989
