RARE Vintage 20th Century 'Singer Sewing' childs carry box

Offered for sale is this extremely rare vintage 20th Century ‘Singer’ lithoprinted metal childs toy carry box, most likely made in the UK or USA and dating from the 1960’s.

The sweet design features two duplicated images; the front/back a previously-published Singer advertisement photograph image of a mother and child (from the late-1930’s to early-1950’s) as well as girls dresses, buttons and a needle. The sides (each a slightly different colour) have a quilting-pattern print background with ‘Singer’ logo, button and threaded needle.

Cannot find another example for comparison! Perfect for the vintage Singer/sewing collector, or perhaps doll collector to display smaller dolls.

Over time the box has patinated, which adds to its charm (as well as confirming it as a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction).

Vintage 20th Century USA MARX Toys celluloid wind-up Donald Duck

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century USA celluloid wind-up Donald Duck, made by MARX Toys and dating from the late 1940's. Opening in 1919 and closing in 1980, Louis Marx and Company made a wide variety of toys for children over the 60 years of its existence. They offered several variations of a wind-up Donald Duck.

The design features a standing Donald complete with umbrella - and tail set with a red bow (that spins when wound).

No cracks, chipping or loses to the figure. The original paint has some occasional spots of wear but overall this is minimal (and remarkable considering its age). The winding mechanism works and also slowly rotates him anti-clockwise.

Measures 15.5cm (h) x 10cm (w) x 14 (d) approximately).

Vintage 20th Century (1965) USA Playskool 'Match-Ups' childrens game

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century USA-made ‘Playskool 24 Match-Ups’ set, made by Playskool Manufacturing/Capital Publishing and dating from 1965. For ages 3 to 6!

The original box has a classical ‘Mad Men’ image of suburban domestic bliss (both the girl and boy look very sweet-as-apple-pie Norman Rockwell).

Children as well as adults could have hours of fun!

Given it’s almost 60-years old, the box is in remarkable condition (only one small tear). All 24 Match-Ups are in likewise excellent original condition, only ‘Green Frog’ has a slight bend (as pictured).

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century French ‘Batman* Forever – Robin’ moulded glass promotional Bat-tankard, made for McDonalds and dating from 1995. ‘Holey gee willickers Batman! A mug all for me? Kazowies!’.

The design features Robin charging ahead on one side, the other an image of the Batmobile at the entrance to the Batcave (with Batsignal above). The textured handle also has Robin’s Batlogo on both sides. You get a lot of Bat(insert word here) for your money!

The frame was polished and any rust on the chrome carefully removed (as best possible, has come up about 98%).

RARE Vintage 20th Century East German (GDR) lithoprinted tin toy bucket

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century East German (GDR) lithoprinted metal child’s toy bucket, estimated as dating from the 1960’s to 1970’s. Despite extensive research, the factory (‘DB’ logo) could not be identified but would most likely be one of the pre-WW2 german toy-making companies relaunched post-1945 under the GDR.

A rare find in the Australian market - as these would have been produced for domestic consumption or export to other Soviet satellite countries behind the Iron Curtain.

The design features a series of stylised polychrome lithoprinted characters on a lime green ground. One has a circus elephant with three riders (a young boy (dressed as a clown), young girl and monkey), the other an adult hedgehog towing a small cart with young mouse (playing with a ball). There’s some interesting symbolism behind these outwardly childlike, fun scenes – simplicity/making do (so no overconsumption, like in the corrupt capitalist West), social control (perhaps the elephant riders are the bourgeois rulers oppressing the proletariat elephant (who is forced to remain every cheerful and entertaining) and social obedience/cohesion (elders serving the youth and everyone being equal).

A charming decorator’s piece, or for any tin-toy collector as well as interesting item of social history for your home or business.

In very good original condition. There is some light patination, appropriate for this being a proper vintage piece and not modern reproduction. The handle is not present, but a replacement could be reinstated if felt necessary.
