Vintage 21st Century Australian-made Paris Kyne beret

Offered for sale is this early 21st Century Australian-made sequinned beret, created by internationally-renowned Master Milliner, Paris Kyne. From a humble background in Eastern Victoria, during the 1990’s and 2000’s Paris rose to prominence as arguably Australia’s most famous milliner before passing in 2013. Both his Melbourne Salons (at 501 Toorak Road and 343 Little Collins Street respectively) became well-travelled locations for the elite, famous, well-heeled and horse racing crowd to treat themselves to one of his classical, or more edgy/innovative designs (that often pushed materials and form to new heights). Paris become known for highly-anticipated Melbourne Fashion Week launches, solo exhibitions and Spring Racing Carnival seasonal ranges. He also tutored in design, textiles and millinery at the Kangan Institute in Richmond.
This example of Paris’ ouvre dates from 2000 to 2005 (when ‘Master Milliner’ was added to the business name) and would have come from the first half of his Toorak Salon period.
With a design that could come straight from Paris during the 1930’s to 1950’s, this elegant and stylish beret features a tan body colour with faux-fur finish. However an insight into Paris’s flamboyant personality is seen in the organic nine-point, gold-sequin frond/feather that’s been carefully added. And there’s a little surprise – a single, faceted amber-coloured glass bead at one end to catch the light and add drama - brilliant! A lot of attention to detail has gone into its overall creation.
Although the tag placement would indicate displaying the sequin to the side, my personal preference (and as the photographs show) would be for the wearer to showcase this by bringing around slightly. It just needs that ‘little black dress’ to complete the outfit and you could be Audrey Hepburn (well almost)!
In excellent original condition.
Measures 25cm x 26cm x 12cm (at peak) approximately). Running a measuring-tape around the inner elastic headband came to 55cm (approx.).

Vintage 20th Century Italian/Hong Kong sequined and
beaded clutch purse boho

Offered for sale is this Vintage 20th Century ‘Lanza’ beaded and sequined silk clutch-purse, designed in Italy and made in Hong Kong – most likely dating from the 1960’s.
An incredible amount of hand-work would have gone into creating this piece! The front features extensive simulated foliage, background sequins and beaded closing edge over a golden silk body. The rear is incredibly detailed, with over 100 individual minute beaded crosses. Very ‘Mad Men’ chic.
Whilst a wonderfully glamourous vintage accessory, this purse could easily hold a variety of mobile phone sizes and plastic cards so is perfect for use today.
Appears to have never been used (the condition of the lining is unmarked) so any patination has occurred during storage. The stitching remains excellent. The silk is in very good overall condition, there is one small mark on the right-outer flap (not seen when closed) and near the press-stud. The smaller beading and sequins are in a remarkable state, there is only one or two loose/loses. Some of the larger beads on the leading edge have lost their gilt finish. Yes, the price takes this all into account.
Measures 25.5cm (w) x 12.5cm (h) x 3cm (w) approximately.

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century ‘Sportscraft’ pleated wool tartan skirt, most likely made in Australia and dating from the 1980’s. Founded in 1914, Sportscraft still continues operating today. The original factory tags remain in place.
With its raw/deconstructed hem edging (which you tease out some more) and bold colours, this is a great piece if you’re wanting to create a casual punk/boho look – very Vivienne Westwood (RIP you absolute fashion legend)! The tartan (95% wool) is of good weight and quality of garment construction excellent.
No moth-holes or damage.
Currently measures a Size 14 (70cm waist) - however you could easily adjust this out further by adding another button-hole and moving the buttons.

With its broad lapels, high-neck belted collar and epaulettes, this is a fantastic example of 1980’s glamour design (riffing off a WW2 bomber-jacket meets Post-Apocalyptic future). Well constructed, a quality garment to compliment any retro-lovers wardrobe.

Vintage 20th Century English Marlene compact

Offered for sale is this pair of vintage 20th Century accessories, an English-made ‘Marlene’ mirrored powder compact (dating from the 1950’s) and a (most likely) English-made chrome-plated card case (also probably dating from the 1950’s).
The Marlene compact has a charming Art Deco design style, with an inset green cellulose ‘sunburst’ panel imitating engine-turned guilloche enamel. The compact clicks together nicely and push-button holds well. Has the original powder gauze. In very good condition for a 70-year old item, there is some soft patination from use. Measures 7.5cm x 7.5cm x 1cm (h) approximately.

RARE Vintage 20th Century WRAAC/RAN(?)

Offered for sale in this unusual item of vintage clothing, made by David Lack Pty Ltd of Melbourne and most likely dating from the 1950-60’s. This firm was responsible for tailoring jackets for the 1956 Australian Olympics team.
Having researched the garment’s buttons and overall design, it could possibly be one of the following:
- A dinner/dress uniform jacket for the Women's Royal Australian Army Corps (WRAAC). However there is only one WRAAC button (versus two naval ones) and the garment design doesn’t appear to match any used by the them from the 1950’s onwards.
- A dinner/dress uniform jacket for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). However whilst there are two fouled anchor buttons at the collar, they don’t have any stampings or ordnance marks. Also the garment design doesn’t appear to match any used by the RAN from the 1950’s onwards.
- A costume item, modelling a late-18th/19th Century English Royal Navy officers dress jacket and made for the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum in Warnambool. David Lack Pty Ltd is recorded as creating costume items for them.
A previous owner has removed the epaulettes and there is small open stitch (a simple repair). Externally the jacket is in excellent condition with the silk lining complete however will require some repair.
Further research may reveal the actual purpose. Whatever the history, it’s a useful and well-made item for either static display, historical re-enactments, fancy dress or cosplay/LARPing.

Offered for sale is this in amazing original condition is this vintage 1930’s (estimated) leather motorcyclist’s long-coat and set of matching leather gaiters/putees. The longcoat was made in Richmond, Melbourne by the well-known Australian firm of Simpsons Gloves Pty Ltd (in business from 1924-1988). The maker of the gaiters could not be identified.

Complete the look to match your vintage motorbike – very WW1 Despatch Rider! In a dark brown, the leather has that lovely patina that only comes with genuine age and use. The lining is in also in amazing condition given its age of almost 100 years.
The sizing tab has worn away, however would estimate to be around a Mens 38 (I am a 42 and it fitted but was a little tight across the shoulders and slightly short on my arms). The length is 110cm, so is a ¾ coat. Unfortunately the belt is missing.
The gaiters/putees are made from very thick leather, quality and not flimsy. Possibly ex-military but despite looking hard cannot find any MoD stamps. Both are 30cm tall. One top-strap will need a repair (pictured).

Antique/Vintage 20th Century blue garbadine overcoat

Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th century blue garbadine overcoat, possibly military and most likely dating from the 1920's to 1940's. There is a factory stamp present (which may read 'RAAF' or 'RAN') and manufacturers tag present but it is hard to read any fine detail.
Eminently wearable as a quality vintage item of clothing.
The original lining is in very good condition, and only a very small amount of damage is present (moth holes) - 99% of the garment is in amazing condition considering it it is 80-100 years old. The deep blue of the garbadine shell still has good depth of colour. The collar is also very good with no sweat stains.
