In a 1920’s graphics-style, the eye-catching design features Bensons company mascot/logo (an anthropomorphic toffee-person) with their famous wording, ‘Something good from England’ (used for overseas markets - apparently their domestic labels read, ‘Something good from Bury’) repeated on three sides. Antique early-20th Century English silverplate cake/bread/fruit bowl by William Suckling & Sons
$75
Offered for sale is this attractive antique early-20th Century English silverplate cake/bread/fruit basket, made by William Suckling & Sons and estimated as dating from the 1900’s to 1920’s. Founded in Birmingham in 1895, this large firm offered a large range of kitchen and tableware plated items. They continued operating until 1965.
The well-made and attractive design features a deep bowl form set on four ovoid-shape ball feet. The sides have an elongated, pierced vertical gallery; above and below are two matching smaller pierced galleries with complementary stylised foliate stamping. From a finer point at the base, the matching handles transition to a broad (then pinched) swelling - perhaps inspired by those found on Scottish quaiches. This shape helps create a pleasant tactile (as well as visual) balance between the fineness in the galleries and sturdiness of the handles.
Perfect to hold pastries (eg croissant), cupcakes, scones, small bread loaves etc and of course fruit. Or purely a lovely decorator’s piece for any home or business.
In very good overall original condition. The plating remains excellent and reflects its original high-production values. There is patination appropriate with this being a proper antique and not modern reproduction, including the tiniest amount of occasional verdigris (as pictured).
Measures 8.3cm (h) x 17.5cm (diameter, excluding handles) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

RARE Antique late-19th/early-20th Century Scottish/English Lawsons Whisky decanter
$95
Offered for sale is this rare antique late-19th/early-20th Century English or Scottish hand-blown Lawson’s Liqueur Whisky decanter/bottle, estimated as dating from 1890 to 1900. Most likely this was made for the William Lawson distillery, a whisky brand started in 1849 and still operating today.
The eye-catching (and technically difficult to make) design features a four-sided, pinched waist form with a central column surrounded by four individual vertical ‘straws’ at the edge of each corner (that allow for the same level of fluid as in the main body). A large pontil indicates where this hand-blown piece was snapped off during manufacture. To this has been hand-engraved (and gilded wording added): ‘ Lawson’s Liqueur Whisky’. The stopper is original and fits neatly.
A rare survivor. Great decorator’s piece for any whisky afficianado, home or business.

This lovely original piece provides the flexibility of either decorative (as a vase) or practical use as a carafe/decanter.
In excellent original condition, no cracks or chipping. There is a very tiny piece of frit in the upper neck, which is not damage but reflects the hand-made nature of art glass (as this would have occurred when being blown in the factory). Was gently cleaned before sale.

RARE Antique 19th Century Scottish silverplate water jug
by J Blond & Son
$120
Offered for sale is this stunning and rare antique 19th Century Scottish-made silverplate hot/cold footed water jug, attributed to Glasgow makers J Blond & Son and estimated as dating from 1880’s. The firm appears to have been active from the 1880’s to 1890’s and produced a variety of sterling and plated pieces.
The glorious High Victorian design begins with its finely-cast, elegant and lightweight body – a mark of quality that contrasts much of the ‘battleship weight’ average silverplate made during this time. The form itself is almost pumpkin-like, created by the use of deep gadroons that swell from the base and rise to an undulating collar. The lip continues the use of this same undulation, with the lid an attractive contrast as it echoes the gadrooning found on the lower body.
The handle is formed from a fine-grained timber using a sinuous curve with uppermost riser (denoting another mark of quality, as well as adding strength) that leads to an opposing-curve thumb-rest. It also has an leaf-form triangular reinforcement at the top. All this sits nicely on four lions-paw feet protruding from oak-leaves. Great attention to detail has been paid to its overall creation.
A charming and high-quality example of Victorian silverplate.
You could use this for food service, or (as pictured) it makes a stunning vase for holding dried flowers.
In very good original condition, no dents. The plating shows appropriate gentle patination with this being a correct antique piece and not modern reproduction.
Measures (including handle) 24.5cm (h) x 17cm x 11cm approximately.
