RARE Vintage 20th Century Australian Blue Magic Krispy Kan by TB Guest
$45
Offered for sale is this rare vintage 20th Century Australian ‘Blue Magic Krispy Kan’ tin food storage tin, made in Melbourne by T.B. Guest & Co. Independently famous before its merger with the Arnotts Biscuit Company (in 1962), Thomas Bibby Guest started making ship’s biscuits in Sydney in 1853 before migrating south to Melbourne in 1856. Eventually building two dedicated factories in the CBD and North Melbourne, the company expanded their range and created many favourite Australian biscuits including: Thin Captain, Tee Vee Snacks, Marie and Nice.
This domestically-produced example of the original USA version makes this a desirable item for kitchenalia collectors. The wonderfully wacky (using biscuits and popcorn to represent flowers) graphics features the ‘Thin Captain’ cracker (incorporating T.B. Guest branding). And the hilariously named ‘Blue Magic Dri-Nob’ glass finial is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face!
The design features a multi-part cylinder form made from tin and decorated in polychrome printed graphics. The lid holds the removable glass finial (with original crystals still inside).

RARE Antique/Vintage 20th Century Australian Hobart Tasmania condiment servers
$95
Offered for sale is this interesting collection of rare antique and vintage 20th Century Tasmanian historical condiment servers, being a matched and engraved pair of English silverplate mustard pots (made by Walker and Hall and dating from 1914) and Australian porcelain transfer-print salt and peppers (made by Westminster of Melbourne and most likely dating from the 1960’s).
Both mustard pots are nicely engraved ‘Trocadero Hobart’ in copperplate script. Near the crisp factory hallmarks are a cross (or + symbol) alongside a ‘1’ and ‘12’ – so these would have formed part of a larger service. Research found a business called ‘The Trocadero’ was advertised in June 1917 as operating a Tea Rooms and musical venue, opposite the Hobart GPO. Its original building was demolished to permit construction of the current Bursary Building (22-26 Elizabeth Street) in 1926 and a Trocadero Café exists at that location today. Trocadero was globally a popular name for dance halls and music venues from the 1910’s to 1930’s.
Each porcelain salt and pepper features a polychrome transfer-print of the famous Hobartian Cat and Fiddle arcade musical clock, which opened in 1962.
All pieces are in very good original condition, no cracks to the original blue glass liners or salt and peppers.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can post at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand watch it may need a service, and is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase (as any sale is final).

Vintage 20th Century Australian kauri serving platter
by Eric Juckert
$45
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Australian decorated kauri wood tray, made by artist Eric Juckert and estimated as dating from 1959 to 1965. A well-known and much-loved personality on Philip Island, Eric was already a highly-regarded potter and painter when he moved to the island in 1959 (at Grossard Point), establishing a studio gallery (and menagerie of domestic and exotic animals). From 1959 until 1965 (when electricity finally reached his property - allowing for an electric kiln to be installed) he took to painting wooden plaques and other tourist pieces.
Born in Richmond in 1918, Eric studied with important 20th Century potter Una Deerborn in the mid-1930’s before starting his own studio (selling to David Jones and Myer). Serving in the RAAF during WW2, post-service he moved within the Melbourne area several times before travelling overseas and returning to finally settle on the island. Eric was known to have supported other local creatives (including the Summerlands Art Group) throughout his own career. During his lifetime, the quality of his textures and glazes became recognised domestically and internationally. In 1988 he completed a much-appreciated mural celebrating 150 years of colonisation on the island (that still hangs in the Cowes Cultural Centre). Ceasing pottery production in 1992, he passed away in 2004. Eric’s pottery is held in the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and many private collections.
In 2018, a story from his colourful life at Grossard’s Point was celebrated with an online comic strip created by Melbourne cartoonist and filmaker Bernard Caleo.
The design features a low, turned bowl form with wooden and plated metal carry-handle. This has been hand-decorated with three stylised Aboriginal hunting implements and weapons: a boomerang (with stylised turtle, kangaroo, snake and faux-totemic elements), woomera and club (having faux-totemic ovoid elements applied).

It features a classical gravy boat form with generous broad spout, open foliate-scroll handle, curvaceous rolled edges and body that sits neatly on three foliate-shaped tiered feet. The quality of the plating is exceedingly high, and casting very light – this is not a clunky, battleship-heavy piece of plate! Feels excellent in hand, easy to pour.
Perfect for returning to food service or could easily hold sweets/lollies/candied fruits, etc.
In very good overall original condition. There is some light patination to the plating, appropriate for this being a proper vintage piece and not modern reproduction. Please note the left rear foot has a very slight curl (which could easily be dressed out if felt necessary).
Measures 8cm (h) x 15cm x 8cm approximately.

Antique/Vintage 20th Century English silverplate cobalt glass jam/sugar bowl
$30
Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century English footed silverplate and glass sugar/jam serving bowl, estimated as dating from the 1920’s to 1930’s. Despite extensive research the manufacturer could not be identified.
The attractive and unusual design features a form with split-feet and curved side panels, each riveted to a pierced, half-round trough (which has two circular bosses underneath) to create the body. The curvaceous carry-handle (that mimics the shape of the panels) is likewise riveted to the top of each side. The trough snuggly holds its original cobalt blue glass liner.
As most examples of this time have longer bodies (and with troughs usually formed using in a 90-degree angled ‘V’), being more compact makes this a rarer type. Being riveted also marks this as being of better quality – as later examples are usually brazed.
In very good overall original condition. Importantly, the glass liner has no chips or cracks. There is some light patination to the plating (particularly the top of one side panel), which yes the asking price takes into account. Please note the spoon is potentially a marriage - being made by the International Silver Company (USA) and is hallmarked ‘R.C. Co.’.
Measures (excluding spoon). 15cm (h) x 16.5cm (w) x 6.7cm (d) approximately.

Vintage 20th Century Hong Kong painted tin carry tray
and tea caddies
$85
Offered for sale is this charming vintage 20th Century Hong Kong-made pressed metal service tray and matching tea caddies, estimated as dating from the 1970’s to 1997. Research indicates this design was originally produced by The Metal Tray Manufacturing Company Limited (England). All pieces stickered on reverse ‘Made in Hong Kong’.
The tray has a black ground, its polychrome-decorated design features a curved tray form (that mimics Classical Chinese shapes) with applied printing. It presents a ‘Westernised’ domestic scene that incorporates auspicious symbolism such as overarching cherry blossom and fruiting cumquat. Most likely set within a patio area, a bannister of Archaic-style lattice panels (and two large potted trees) frame a seated Court Official/Head of Household being brought a noodle bowl by a young child. On the right two women are standing, holding fans and wearing 1920-30’s-style silk pajamas. Behind them is a three-panel room divider with blossom decoration. The entire scene is framed by a repeated border with repeated elongated shapes and roundels.
One tea caddy repeats scenes taken from the tray design, the lid having a central boss with various auspicious birds including: two heron, two geese and a sparrow.
The other has a lovely cream ground utilising red and gold as highlights. One panel depicts a rural scene besides a lake (incorporating a pagoda, house and mountain) with an elderly man and young attendant fishing underneath a large cherry tree in blossom. There are also three butterflies (symbolising beauty, freedom and longevity). The second panel has a riparian or seaside scene (complete with boat) and a single female figure holding a fan and standing underneath cherry blossom (there are also another three butterflies). The lid has a ‘shou’ symbol (for longevity) and accompanying cherry blossom with six butterflies.
In very good overall original condition. There is a some light patination and wear, appropriate for this being a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction.
The tray measures 2cm (h) x 41cm x 33.5cm (d), and each tea caddy (with lid fitted) 11cm (h) x 10cm x 10cm approximately.
