The 1903 version is more Neo-Classical Revival/Aesthetic Movement with floral styling; and the 1904 more Rococo (with two differing stylised shell motifs on the front and reverse).

Vintage 20th Century Hong Kong silverplate Feng Sui/tourist spoons with original case
$60
Offered for sale is set of six vintage 20th Century Chinese silver-plate souvenir spoons in their original presentation case, made in Hong Kong and estimated as dating from the 1950’s. The design of each spoon references earlier designs from the late-19th/early-20th Century.
In a high level of detail, this group of spoons provides a mixture of positive Feng Sui symbolism as well as tourist interest. The first contains Chinese calligraphy characters for ‘happiness and longevity’, the second is a Qianlong Tong bao coin (another symbol for long life, representing the peach), the third has ‘Hong Kong’ presented in an elongated bamboo frame, the fourth a five-tier classical Chinese pagoda (a powerful Feng Sui element), the fifth a Chinese junk (forever associated with Hong Kong harbour) and lastly a Chinese woman (wearing a cheongsam and carrying a clutch-purse) being driven in a rickshaw. The shaft of each spoon is made to represent bamboo.
A true timecapsule and poignant reminder of a time and world that no longer exists.
The presentation case is well constructed using a see-through glass (not perspex) lid, dense cardboard and printed paper (possibly wallpaper).
Each spoon is in very good original condition. There is some very gentle patination to the silver, as you’d expect from a vintage silver-plate item and not modern reproduction. Each piece was gently cleaned before sale.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. RARE Antique 19th Century Scottish silverplate footed jug
by J Blond and Son
$120
Offered for sale is this stunning and rare antique 19th Century Scottish-made silverplate hot/cold footed water jug, attributed to Glasgow makers J Blond & Son and estimated as dating from 1880’s. The firm appears to have been active from the 1880’s to 1890’s and produced a variety of sterling and plated pieces.
The glorious High Victorian design begins with its finely-cast, elegant and lightweight body – a mark of quality that contrasts much of the ‘battleship weight’ average silverplate made during this time. The form itself is almost pumpkin-like, created by the use of deep gadroons that swell from the base and rise to an undulating collar. The lip continues the use of this same undulation, with the lid an attractive contrast as it echoes the gadrooning found on the lower body.
The handle is formed from a fine-grained timber using a sinuous curve with uppermost riser (denoting another mark of quality, as well as adding strength) that leads to an opposing-curve thumb-rest. It also has an leaf-form triangular reinforcement at the top. All this sits nicely on four lions-paw feet protruding from oak-leaves. Great attention to detail has been paid to its overall creation.
A charming and high-quality example of Victorian silverplate.
You could use this for food service, or (as pictured) it makes a stunning vase for holding dried flowers.
In very good original condition, no dents. The plating shows appropriate gentle patination with this being a correct antique piece and not modern reproduction.
Measures (including handle) 24.5cm (h) x 17cm x 11cm approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Vintage 20th Century USA silverplate reproduction of
17th Century New England beaker for New York Metropolitan Museum by Gorham
$35
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century USA-made reproduction 17th Century beaker, created in silver plate for the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art (by Gorham USA) and dating from 1970’s to 1990’s. Founded in 1831 (Providence, Rhode Island) Gorham became one of America’s largest makers of silver and plated items until (through various takeovers and mergers) its closure of domestic manufacture in 2020. During that time it produced substantial commission services for notable American families, the armed services, major corporations and The White House. They also produced a range of high-quality historical reproductions for sale at the Metropolitan Museum.
The attractive design is a high-quality reproduction of an original American-made (or possibly English) silver beaker that was found in New England and is now held in The Met’s collection. It a features a repeated row of stylised Icanthus leaves around the base; above this sits a raised band with hand-punched floral design.
In very good original condition, there is of course some patination and soft verdigris (to be expected of a vintage item) but no loss to the plating.

2 x Antique early-20th Century German Aesthetic Movement/Gothic Revival cobalt glass goblets by WMF
$295
Offered for sale is this matched pair of antique early-20th Century German Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) silver-plate dual-handle goblets with cobalt glass liners, dating from 1903 to 1910 (the ‘First’ Ostrich hallmark). This design was first produced by the factory in the late-19th Century (1886 to 1903), so very early in their history.
Lovely (and rare) to have a pair of these glorious examples of Aesthic Movement/Gothic Revival/Art Nouveau styling (and with liners).
The incredibly-detailed and high-quality design is a wonderful melange of all these artistic movements. Starting with organic, foliate handles featuring seated butterfly terminals, quatrefoils and ‘turned handle’ dividers that separate the upper and lower portions. The main body of the cup features a complicated pierced upper gallery with central ovoid bosses, allowing light through the liner – adding a sense of delicacy and elegance. Beneath this is a repeated band of rectangular lozenges with a stylised ‘Tree of Life’ motif. This leads the eye to a decorative base with repeated triumphal flowers, trefoils and heraldic shields. Stunning stuff.
Both show wear to the original silver gilding finish but no loss of original crisp detailing. Over time this wear has exposed the brass - that’s taken on it’s own attractive verdigris and deep patination. The butterfly on one handle has lost a wing (potentially a replacement could be moulded and attached) and one liner has a small chip/occasional frits, however the other is in excellent condition.
Each measures (with liner) 12.5cm (h) x 10.5cm (diameter, excluding handles) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee.
