2 x Antique 19th Century German plated candlesticks
by E G Zimmerman
$145
Offered for sale is this matched set of antique 19th Century German plated candelabra, made by the factory of Ernst Georg Zimmerman and estimated as dating from 1840 to 1899. Both have factory marks and ‘11678’ model numbers.
Founded by Ernst Georg Zimmerman in 1840 in Hanau (Hesse), the company quickly became one of Europe’s most valued and desirable makers of art and domestic silver, bronze, brass and fine iron products (with clients including the Sultan of Brunei). The factory was completely destroyed in 1944 and rebuilt post-war, with the company (still under family ownership) adjusting to production of domestic, bathroom and home fitting items – with a particular focus on the use of marble (the factory had a famous neon sign stating, ‘Marmor ist kein Luxus’ (‘Marble is not a luxury’)). Unfortunately after a 168-year period of family-owned operation, the business ceased production in 2019.
The handsome design of each features a single cast brass form with applied plating. Their look references Neo-Classical Revival elements on the base, having protruding foliate corners and a multi-level plinth leading to the undecorated stems set at a contrasting (and visually interesting) 45-degree angle.
Both are in good overall original condition. There is patination to the metals and plating appropriate for these being correct antique items and not modern reproductions.
Each measures 20.5cm (h) with a 8cm x 8cm base (approximately).

The charming and high-quality design features an ovoid dished silverplate form with extensive stamped decoration (in the manner of repoussé). In a Naturalist (somewhat Art Nouveau) style, a series of repeated floral blossom stems and bunches are set across the rim and the interior of the bowl. The level of detail is excellent and very lifelike.
In very good overall condition. There is patination appropriate for this being a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction. There are two very tiny areas of loss (as pictured) that the asking price takes into account.

8 x Antique/Vintage 20th Century Tibetan/Bhutanese
gilt copper yongchap bowls
$795
Offered for sale is stunning collection of eight antique/vintage 20th Century Tibetan/Bhutanese yönchap (ཡོན་ཆབ་) repoussé copper, silver and gold gilt offering/water bowls. Common practice across Tibet and Bhutan, Yonchap is the daily Buddhist cultural practice of offering a series of bowls (usually seven, sometimes eight) containing water (the cleanest possible) and other items. Every bowl represents different elements of prayer - when used as a set of seven, two hold water and five have ‘utility’ objects (flowers, incense, butter candle, perfume, food). When used as a set of eight, the last has a representation of music.
The design of each features a low, dished hand-beaten cup form in copper with extensive decoration (repoussé work and gilding). The copper would appear to have been hand-cut from a flat sheet then beaten over a mould to form the cup. All have a series of four separate medallions which combine symbols of the Noble Eightfold Path, being the:
- Lotus (meaning transformation and acceptance)
- Conch Shell (the sound of Dharma being shared)
- Dharma wheel (the Buddha’s teachings, or Noble Eightfold Path)
- Endless/Eternal Knot (which has various interpretations, from the interrelation of everything to never-ending growth through the dharma)
- Umbrella (safety/protection/refuge by the teachings of the Buddha)
- Fish (freedom from suffering and delusion)
- Vase (symbolising the potential of enlightenment for growth and gifts of dharma practice)
- Victory banner (the victory of Buddhist teachings over ignorance, delusion, hatred and anger)
Having four medallions is another reference to the Buddha’s teaching; of not only nurturing love in our hearts, but spreading it everywhere: `in one direction, then a second, a third and a fourth, above, below, all around, everywhere, to others as to oneself. One should live pervading the great wide world with the mind filled with an abundant and exalted love that is freed from anger and ill-will'.
The cartouche are separated by stylised lotus flower foliage against a textured ground, the external rim having a repeated gallery of triangular shapes with a recurring angled ‘feather’ motif.
Every cup in this set is unique, all have slight differences in design and size. Over time and with use each bowl has developed its own patination, appropriate for these being correct antique/vintage items and not modern reproductions. Please note a previous owner has externally cleaned one.
Due to their variation, as a guide each measures around 3.5cm (h) x 8.4cm (diameter).
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. RARE Antique/Vintage 20th Century Hobart Tasmania condiment servers
$95
Offered for sale is this interesting collection of rare antique and vintage 20th Century Tasmanian historical condiment servers, being a matched and engraved pair of English silverplate mustard pots (made by Walker and Hall and dating from 1914) and Australian porcelain transfer-print salt and peppers (made by Westminster of Melbourne and most likely dating from the 1960’s).
Both mustard pots are nicely engraved ‘Trocadero Hobart’ in copperplate script. Near the crisp factory hallmarks are a cross (or + symbol) alongside a ‘1’ and ‘12’ – so these would have formed part of a larger service. Research found a business called ‘The Trocadero’ was advertised in June 1917 as operating a Tea Rooms and musical venue, opposite the Hobart GPO. Its original building was demolished to permit construction of the current Bursary Building (22-26 Elizabeth Street) in 1926 and a Trocadero Café exists at that location today. Trocadero was globally a popular name for dance halls and music venues from the 1910’s to 1930’s.
Each porcelain salt and pepper features a polychrome transfer-print of the famous Hobartian Cat and Fiddle arcade musical clock, which opened in 1962.
All pieces are in very good original condition, no cracks to the original blue glass liners or salt and peppers.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century Japanese antinomy smokers/desk set with dragon and tiger design
$125
Offered for sale is this impressive vintage 20th Century Japanese antimony-ware smokers/desk set, dating from 1945 to 1952. Research indicates the factory mon may belong to an early phase of the Yoshiya Company (also known as Kobe Yoko Ltd) that eventually went on to produce popular tin toys. Many of these pieces came back to Australia as souvenirs sold to servicemen/women during their engagement with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force post-WW2. Marked ‘Made in Occupied Japan’.
The highly-detailed, five-part design features a rectangular shallow-dished tray with two lidded containers and lighter/matchbox holder, cast in antinomy having silver and gold finishes. Overall the set features Buddhistic symbolism throughout – such as a dragon, waves (that also references ukiyo-e artist Hokusai’s famous ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’), numerous birds and temples.
Cleverness of design is found in the two lidded boxes, which together form a single scene of a snarling tiger on a rocky outcrop and swirling dragon over a turbulent sea (the dragon’s tail ‘linking’ the two). Both the tiger and dragon are highlighted in gold gilt. The interior of the cigarette holder is curved and finished in gold gilt. The lighter has a repeat of waves with two seabirds (in gold gilt), whilst the tray also has these along with three interior panels: a mountainous scene of two temples set in a forest, the middle a beachside temple set on rocks with rising sun and lastly, the world-famous torri (gateway) to the Itsukushima shrine complex (in Hiroshima Prefecture).
A stunning decorators piece for your home or business.
In very good overall condition. Over time and with use, the finish has developed a unique wabi-sabi, appropriate for this being a proper vintage piece and not modern reproduction. The interior and lid of the ashtray show they have been utilised by previous owners. The lighter is missing the upper portion, however a reproduction 20th Century Japanese-labelled matchbox has been produced to accompany the set (no matches, box only).
Measures (with fittings in situ) 6cm (h) x 24cm (w) x 13.5cm (d) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Antique 20th Century (1910) George V English sterling silver pepperettes by E.S. Barnsley & Co
$395
Offered for sale is this fine matched pair of antique 20th Century English George V sterling silver step-footed pepperettes, made by Edward Souter Barnsley and dating from 1910. Barnsley is known to have been active from 1895 up until 1921 (trading as E.S. Barnsley & Company at Frederick Street, Birmingham), during which time the firm developed a reputation for producing high quality and exceptionally detailed silver flatware, novelty and tableware items. Each body is hallmarked ‘E.S.B.’ with the Birmingham anchor, lion passant and date code ‘l’ (date codes and lion passant are also found on each cover).
The overall curvaceous, organic design reflects the company’s renown for detail. With an attractive bulbous, pear-shaped form each has a fluted and elevated rim, holding smartly-fitting domed and pierced cover with swelling finial that terminates in a fine point. Set nicely on three individually-formed feet; these having a delightful curve which ends in a pad foot with final step. This sort of attention to detail raises these above the ordinary.
They feel wonderful in-hand, and would be a delight to use again or grace any silver collection.
In very good overall original condition. No dents to either body. Over time the silver has taken on a patina appropriate for these being proper antique items and not modern reproductions (this has not been polished out, but left for the next owner to decide what they’d like). Please note the interior of one has some verdigris from use, which a silversmith could restore if felt necessary. The asking price reflect overall presentation of both pieces.
Measures (with cover fitted) 6.9cm (h) x 4cm (diameter, including feet) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Antique 20th Century German/Austrian? Philip Boileau porcelain and sterling silver posy vase
$45
Offered for sale is this antique 20th Century ‘Philip Boileau’ porcelain and sterling silver posy vase, most likely German or Austrian in origin and estimated as dating from the first quarter of the century. Canadian/American artist Boileau was born in 1863 before his family moved to the United Kingdom in 1871. After studying art in Italy during his early twenties, he eventually returned to North America (Baltimore, USA) in 1897 and developed a successful career as a highly-regarded ‘Society’ portrait artist. Taking the opportunity to move to New York lead to further commercial success; with many commissions for advertising, posters, postcards, magazines and ceramics. Boileau’s ouvre expressed itself in well-executed, highly-romanticised watercolour and pastel images of middle- and upper-class women that become popularly known as ‘Boileau Girls’ during his lifetime. His most famous work, ‘Peggy’ (1903) was of his stage actress wife Emily Gilbert. Aged only 53, he passed away in 1917 from pneumonia.
The design features a classical posy vase form with graduated orange overglaze glaze and applied transferprint, the rim having an English sterling silver collar attached (it is unsure if this was done when new, or by a prior owner wanting to add value/appeal). The portrait image is of an Edwardian woman shown mid-torso, wearing a high-neck blouse and fur shawl, with Pompadour/’Gibson Girl’ style hair framed by a voluminous hat with ostrich feathers and flower posy (most likely Forget-Me-Not). A second, floating repeat of the flower posy motif is found across her arms. The wording, ‘Copyright 1907 Philip Boileau’ appears at the base of the shawl.
The London sterling silver collar has a maker’s hallmark of either ‘HP’ or ‘HPA’ – despite extensive research they can’t currently be identified, however the cartouche form would indicate a date range of 1916 to 1933. A strong contender may be Henry Perkins & Sons – who are recorded as providing silver mounts for various items from 1900 to the 1920’s. Unfortunately the application of the collar (or perhaps later damage) has lead to the date code and Leopard’s Head being difficult to discern.
A charming decorative piece.
The vase is in very good original condition, no chips or cracking. The mount is patinated, as pictured. Yes the price takes this into account.
Measures 12cm (h) x 6.5cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.
Vintage 20th Century English tripleplate gravy boat/creamer
by Mappin Webb
$85
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century English triple-plated ‘Princes’ Plate’ silver tri-footed gravy boat/creamer, made by Mappin & Webb and estimated as dating from the late 1920’s. Founded in Sheffield in 1775 and still in business today, this globally-renowned luxury silver/silverplate, jewellery and watch firm (now based in London) has held multiple Royal Warrants since 1889 (its current master craftsman is the Crown Jeweller). Full factory hallmarks are underneath the body with a ‘Z’ date mark (an internal code used by Mappin & Webb).
The elegant and delightful design is modelled on English Georgian and Regency Neo-Classical Revival examples of the 18th and 19th Centuries. It features a classical gravy boat form with generous broad spout, open foliate-scroll handle, curvaceous rolled edges and body that sits neatly on three foliate-shaped tiered feet. The quality of the plating is exceedingly high, and casting very light – this is not a clunky, battleship-heavy piece of plate! Feels excellent in hand, easy to pour.
Perfect for returning to food service or could easily hold sweets/lollies/candied fruits, etc.
In very good overall original condition. There is some light patination to the plating, appropriate for this being a proper vintage piece and not modern reproduction. Please note the left rear foot has a very slight curl (which could easily be dressed out if felt necessary).
Measures 8cm (h) x 15cm x 8cm approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Antique/Vintage 20th Century Khmer/Cambodian silver
rice spoon
$145
Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century Cambodian/Khmer stamped and engraved silver rice spoon. Inside the bowl is hallmarked ‘T.900’ and two Khmer language characters. The piece was tested (in several areas) using a magnet and showed no properties of attraction.
The design features a broad, shallow bowl attached to a hollow square-form shaft with pointed conical terminal. The bowl interior is decorated with a stylised foliate gallery supported by a repeating band of ovoids; and surrounding the shaft an open leaf/floral element. Both upper portions of the shaft have an extended band of stamped foliate and circular shapes (in repeat of those found in the bowl). The conical terminal is fitted to the top of the shaft with a square socket – again having a foliate band and ‘leaf’ forms (there is also a hole, which may have originally had a holding ring fitted or to allow gases out during the brazing process).

Antique/Vintage 20th Century English silverplate cobalt glass jam/sugar bowl
$30
Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century English footed silverplate and glass sugar/jam serving bowl, estimated as dating from the 1920’s to 1930’s. Despite extensive research the manufacturer could not be identified.
The attractive and unusual design features a form with split-feet and curved side panels, each riveted to a pierced, half-round trough (which has two circular bosses underneath) to create the body. The curvaceous carry-handle (that mimics the shape of the panels) is likewise riveted to the top of each side. The trough snuggly holds its original cobalt blue glass liner.
As most examples of this time have longer bodies (and with troughs usually formed using in a 90-degree angled ‘V’), being more compact makes this a rarer type. Being riveted also marks this as being of better quality – as later examples are usually brazed.
In very good overall original condition. Importantly, the glass liner has no chips or cracks. There is some light patination to the plating (particularly the top of one side panel), which yes the asking price takes into account. Please note the spoon is potentially a marriage - being made by the International Silver Company (USA) and is hallmarked ‘R.C. Co.’.
Measures (excluding spoon). 15cm (h) x 16.5cm (w) x 6.7cm (d) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Antique/Vintage 20th Century Japanese antimony trinket box wabi sabi
$30
Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century Japanese antimony-ware cast lidded trinket box, estimated as dating from the late-Meiji to early/mid-Showa Periods. Despite extensive research, the factory hallmark (a flying crane in a lozenge) cannot be attributed at this time.
The charming and well-detailed design features a cast antimony loveheart form, plated in copper then finally a silvered finish. The lid has extensive sakura (cherry-tree) blossom on a textured ground, with the base having multiple iris blooms and accompanying leaf blades. In Japanese culture, both these floral elements combined are symbolic of: new life, beauty, vitality, purity, innocence and strength.
In very good original condition, no dents. There is extensive patination and wear to the gilding, appropriate for this being a proper antique/vintage item and not modern reproduction. This life from previous owners has created a wonderful ‘wabi sabi’ look that is utterly unique to this piece. Please note the brazing for the hinges has separated, however this does not affect its ability to store keepsakes/trinkets or act as a purely decorative item.
Measures (with lid fitted) 4.5cm (h) x 8.5cm x 9cm approximately.
Initially located in Bilston (West Midlands), this highly-successful and innovative company was created in 1891 by John Sankey (eldest son of the founder, Joseph) and his two younger brothers. Antique 20th Century (1922) Irish? porcelain and sterling silver tourist vase
$28
Offered for sale is this charming antique 20th Century porcelain and sterling silver souvenir/tourist transfer-ware vase, possibly made in Ireland and estimated as dating from 1922. This year is significant - as it saw the ratification of the Anglo-Irish Treaty that would formalise the creation of the modern Republic of Ireland. The silver collar is hallmarked for London and with a year-code gothic ‘g’. The maker’s hallmark ‘D.L’ refers to Schindler & Co (registered by a David Loebl, 9 Aldermanbury Avenue, London). The company provided a range of sterling silver mounts as well as importing high-end Bohemian glassware (such as by Rindskopf and Kralik).
On a squat, bulbous twin-handled vase form, the design shows a detailed, hand-coloured image of the The Treaty Stone of 1691, river Shannon and historical centre of Limerick in the background (including St John’s Castle).
In very good original condition, no damage or loses to the transfer. There is some patination to the collar, one small internal chip to the vase (and the collar has lifted slightly in that area). The asking price takes all this into account.
Measures 5cm (h) x 6.5cm (diameter at widest, excluding handles) approximately.
Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. UNIQUE 20th Century (1939) Australian Henley Regatta trophy beaker for Corio Bay Rowing Club Lightweight Eights
$145
Offered for sale is this unique vintage 20th Century Australian silverplate presentation trophy for the Melbourne Amateur Regatta (now the Australian Henley Regatta), dating from November 1939. First held in 1860 on the Birrarung (Yarra) river, this rowing event would become (after the Kings Cup) a premier annual fixture (and hugely popular social event) with teams competing from interstate and overseas. Despite the declaration of WW2 in September 1939, the regatta proceeded on 4 November (with over 100,000 people attending) but would be its last occurrence until 1946. Due to a dispute (caused by a Melbourne Board of Works by-law), for this one time it was moved to Albert Park lake. This significant international sporting event continues to be held every February. Marked ‘EPNS’ on the base (the maker could not be established).
Established in 1873 the Corio Bay Rowing Club (CBRC) was originally based on the bay itself, relocating for a period of time to the Barwon river (during the 1920/30’s) before returning to the bay until the mid-1960’s - then permanently making a home at its current spot on the Barwon. According to club history, 1939 was the first time the CBRC won the Lightweight Eights at the Melbourne Amateur Regatta. Mentioned on the trophy, Cox T O’Donoghue is recorded as competing at the Ballarat Regatta on Sunday 3 May 1940 (at which the CBRC won the Dick Mitchell Maiden Eights and the Major Eric Brind memorial cup).
Hand-engraved onto a beaker form, in an ovoid shield the primary dedication awards the CBRC for winning the LW (Lightweight) Maiden Eights. On its reverse is the Coat of Arms for the City of Melbourne (being the older version, with the whale and bull now switched positions).
Given that WW2 was underway, there’s a reasonable assumption that O’Donoghue and many of his CBRC crew would eventually enlist in the war effort. Both their potential sports careers and lives (if they survived) would be forever impacted. This unique piece is a poignant and important collectable for any rowing historian/enthusiast or sports collector.
In good original condition, no dents or dings. Some wear to the plating has occurred (as pictured), as expected from a proper vintage item and not modern reproduction.
Measures 10cm (h) x 7.7cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can post at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase (as any sale is final).

Antique/Vintage 20th Century German 835 silver Hildesheim Rose condiment ladle
$75
Offered for sale is this charming antique/vintage 20th Century German silver cream/gravy/sauce/condiment ladle, most likely dating from the 1920’s to 1930’s. Inspired by the 1,000-year legend of the famous Hildesheim rose (grown at the local cathedral), this iconic design was created by Chris Widmann (of Pforzheim) in the 1920’s. Hallmarked with ‘835 SILVER’ and ‘GERMANY’ but no maker’s/factory mark.
The elegant form features an ovoid dished bowl (with open mouth), attached to a long stem (styled on the front and reverse in the form of a naturalistic rose-bush) finished by a tri-pierced terminal of single rose blossom and foliage.
In very good original condition. There is some patination that reflects this being a vintage silver item and not modern reproduction.
Measures 15.3cm (l) approximately.
In excellent original condition.

Antique 18th/19th Century Sri Lankan silver and copper killotaya betel nut lime box
$795
Offered for sale is this antique late-18th/early-19th Century Sri Lankan silver-inlaid-on-copper killotaya lime paste (chunam) box, estimated as dating from the 1780’s to 1850’s. The cultural development of killotaya’s derives from the south-east Asian culture of chewing betel nut and/or leaf. Within Sri Lanka it was believed that to avoid being poisoned by your enemies, having your own personal supply of chunam (used to cause a chemical reaction when chewing) was an effective solution – hence the development of individual, portable containers that would reflect the status of their owners (eg some were made of precious metals inset with gemstones). These unique containers are a Sinhalese domestic item and were not intended for the tourist trade. Their principal region of origin is the kingdom of Kandy (central Sri Lanka).
A rare find in the Australian market.
This higher-status example follows classical killotaya design - having two copper discs (inset with silver), and silver hinge/side mounts/upper hinged pin-clasp. Each disc has a central stylised floral motif with dividing dual-rings and outer wave-form. Almost all silver fittings are engraved with a variety of decoration: alternate banding, segmented galleries and floral sprays.
In very good original condition. No dents, the clasp and hinge both work correctly. Over time the silver and copper have deeply patinated, reflecting this being a proper antique item and not modern reproduction. The original spatula and chain is not present.
Measures (closed) 6.2cm (h) x 5.3cm (w) x 2.4cm (d) approximately.
Antique early-20th Century Australian sterling silver
bon bon dish by Stokes & Sons
$125
Offered for sale is this antique 20th Century Australian sterling silver bon bon dish, made for William Drummond & Co by Stokes & Sons, dating from the 1900’s to 1910’s. Founded in 1872 and operating until 2003, Drummond’s operated at the centre (alongside Kozminsky’s) of catering for Victoria’s high-society jewellery and silver/plated tablewear needs – patrons included the famous, well-heeled and elite of Victorian, Edwardian and 19th/20th Century society. Established in 1893 by Thomas Stokes, the company established itself as a successful maker of silver, silverplate, medals, badges and buttons. It continues operation today as a supplier of badges (based in Ringwood).
The elegant design features a classical bon bon dish form, having alternating curved/pointed edging and finely pierced galleries that form triumphal banners (and possibly stylised ‘tree of life’ motif on their uppermost).
Could easily be used again for food service, or perfect for holding business cards, trinkets, etc.
A lovely piece for any collector of Australian silver.
In very good original condition. Over time the silver has lightly patinated (with occasional small marks), reflecting this being a proper antique item and not modern reproduction.
Measures 13.5cm (diameter) x 2.5cm (d) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century English silverplate biscuit/cake/scone/cracker basket
$12
Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century English silver-plated biscuit/cake/cracker basket, most likely dating from the 1930’s to 1950’s. Despite research the maker could not be identified.
The attractive design features pierced galleries with floral motifs, the endplates/stands having curved handles. It also has riveting for the endplates and central basket handle, a nicer touch than simply being brazed.
In good original condition, there is some patination and wear to the plating (as pictured) that the price takes into account. It does not affect its function but is purely cosmetic.
Measures 25cm (l) x 8cm (w) x 13.5cm (high, including handle) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

UNIQUE Vintage 20th Century Australian silverplate Football Trophy (F Grant) for W Keefe of Ascot Vale FC
$25
Offered for sale is this unique vintage 20th Century Australian silver-plate presentation trophy (the F Grant Trophy), awarded by the Ascot Vale Football Club (AVFC) in 1938 to W Keefe for Best Utility Player. Research found a Keefe (playing for Ascot Vale) noted as Best on Ground on 5 July 1937 and both a W and R Keefe (possibly a relative) recorded as Best Players in the Grand Final (against Fawkner District) on 12 September 1938. The AVFC was created in 1898 and in 1930 became a founding member of the Essendon District Football League. As the (now) Ascot Vale Panthers, it continues to be a strong team within the local Melbourne competition.
What lifts a relatively simple item of domestic silverplate into something very interesting is the dedication. Given that 1938 was only one year before the declaration of WW2, there’s a fair chance that W Keefe and many of his club mates enlisted in the war effort. Both their potential football careers and lives (if they survived) would be forever impacted. A poignant and rare collectable for any Victorian football historian/enthusiast.
In fair original condition. There is patination and verdigris, as you’d expect from a used item and not modern reproduction. Yes, the price takes this into account.
Measures 31cm (l) x 17cm (w) x 15.5cm (h) approximately.
Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. 2 x oversize Antique/Vintage 20th Century Art Nouveau style silverplate vases
$145
Offered for sale is this matching pair of oversize antique/vintage 20th Century silverplate Art Nouveau-style mantle vases, most likely dating from the 1900’s to 1930’s. Despite extensive research (and their obvious quality) the maker is unknown but are possibly English or USA in origin. Each is hallmarked ‘Silver on copper’.
The elegant and classical design of each features a high-waisted, rising form with an upper gallery of stylised flowers set on a stippled ground.
An eye-catching statement pair to suit any table, mantlepiece or sideboard. They have both been twice included in household inventories at some point in their past (engraved numbers are found underneath the base), so have been highly-valued and well-regarded by previous owners.
In very good original condition. Over time the plating has very lightly patinated (in some areas only, as pictured) and there is a small dint or two but no huge marks or exposure of the base metal - reflecting these being proper antique/vintage items and not modern reproductions. Both were gently polished for sale.
Each measures 33cm (h) x 14cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.
Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.
Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee.
