Vintage 20th Century USA 'Lily pons' carnival glass tray

by Indiana Glass Company

$25

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century USA-made iridescent carnival glass moulded serving/trinket tray, created by the Indiana Glass Company and most likely dating from the 1970’s to early 1980’s (during their revived production of carnival glass). Commencing operations in 1907, the company would eventually become of the country’s largest makers of domestic glass and moulded tablewares before its closure in 2002.

The design (called ‘Lily pons’) features a dished ovoid form of marigold glass with two stylised blossoms surrounded by (floating) leaves and terminated at each end by ‘stem’ handles.

Perfect for display or practical use (trinkets/jewellery/food service).

In excellent original condition, no cracks or chipping.

Measures 24.3cm (l) x 12cm (w) x 4cm (h) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century Mid-Century Modern art glass crystal vase of European/Scandinavian style

$45

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century crystal art glass vase, made post-WW2 and most likely dating from the 1960’s to 1980’s. Despite research the maker/factory is unknown but is possibly central/northern-European in origin.

Inspired by Italian/Scandanavian examples, the stylish Mid-Century Modern form is hand-blown from heavy glass and features a pale lime green colour. With its swelling shape, thick walls, substantial base and broad rolled lip this has a wonderfully chunky feel; and has obviously been crafted by a talented maker who understands both their material and how to create a satisfying design.

In very good original condition, no chips or cracks. There is a very small scratch (as pictured) hard to spot but want to note for a full description and yes the price takes into account. It reflects this being a proper vintage piece and not modern reproduction.

Measures 18cm (h) x 11cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. In 1980 and 1984 they produced medals for the Lake Placid and Sarejevo Winter Olympics. Born in 1928 and passing in 2011, Paul Isling was a contemporary Swedish designer who enjoyed a long association with NYBRO. The original factory label remains intact.

A charming piece of Scandi chic for any home or business.

Founded in 1950 in Vohenstrauss (Bayern), Kristalglasfabrik Alfred Taube offered a wide range of popular modern studio/art glassware. It continued production until 1993.

ITEM: MA24039

RARE Antique late-19th/early-20th Century Scottish/English Lawsons Whisky decanter

$95

Offered for sale is this rare antique late-19th/early-20th Century English or Scottish hand-blown Lawson’s Liqueur Whisky decanter/bottle, estimated as dating from 1890 to 1900. Most likely this was made for the William Lawson distillery, a whisky brand started in 1849 and still operating today.

The eye-catching (and technically difficult to make) design features a four-sided, pinched waist form with a central column surrounded by four individual vertical ‘straws’ at the edge of each corner (that allow for the same level of fluid as in the main body). A large pontil indicates where this hand-blown piece was snapped off during manufacture. To this has been hand-engraved (and gilded wording added): ‘ Lawson’s Liqueur Whisky’. The stopper is original and fits neatly.

A rare survivor. Great decorator’s piece for any whisky afficianado, home or business.

In excellent original condition, no cracks of chipping (amazing at over 125 years old). There is some very slight loss to the gilding and internal patination - as you’d expect from a proper antique item and not modern reproduction.

Measures (including stopper) 34cm (h) x 8.5cm x 8.5cm approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Due to weight and risk of damage during freight, local collection only or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand item is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase - as any sale is final.

Vintage 20th Century (1974) English art glass carafe/decanter by Whitefriars (Pattern 9723)

$85

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century English Whitefriars art glass carafe, dating from 1974 (Pattern 9723). Though faded, the original factory label (third version) is present and legible.

The design features a bulb-form body finished with an unusual trefoil-frilled collar. Its base is broad and flat - providing an attractive, visually-anchoring contrast to the body whilst at the same time making it perfectly stable. This pattern was not released with a stopper.

This lovely original piece provides the flexibility of either decorative (as a vase) or practical use as a carafe/decanter.

In excellent original condition, no cracks or chipping. There is a very tiny piece of frit in the upper neck, which is not damage but reflects the hand-made nature of art glass (as this would have occurred when being blown in the factory). Was gently cleaned before sale.

Measures 24cm (h) x 11cm (diameter, at widest) approximately.

Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century French crystal Modernist/Brutalist candlestick by Daum

$195

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century French Modernist glass crystal candlestick, made by Daum and most likely dating from the 1960’s to 1980’s. Founded in Nancy in 1878 by Jean Daum, the firm quickly became one of Europe’s leading designers of art glass during the Arts and Crafts/Nouveau and Deco periods. Art Glass production was halted during WW2 and the company left family ownership in 1985. Fully signed by the factory (including the cross of Lorraine).

Made in heavy glass, the eye-catching Mid-Century Modern design features an organic/Brutalist form having a broad, central body split with two heavy arms/branches. The top of each arm features a drilled cup (fitting a modern taper candle, as pictured) with chrome metal candle-base insert. It would appear inspired by the monumental sculptural works of of Sir Henry Moore.

A stunning centrepiece for any table, mantlepiece or sideboard.

In excellent original condition, no cracks or chipping. Over time each inset has slightly oxidized around its edge – which could be removed/replaced and the glass cleaned (if felt necessary) – this decision has been left for the new owner to decide.

Measures 12.5cm (h) x 22.5cm (w) x 4.4cm (d) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century Belgian Art Deco Carnival Glass bowl by Val Saint Lambert

$135

Offered for sale is this charming vintage 20th Century Art Deco Belgian pressed amber Carnival Glass bowl, made by the famous firm of Val Saint Lambert and dating from the 1930’s. In business almost 200 years (founded in 1826 and based in Seraing on the outskirts of Liège), the firm is renowned as a producer of high-quality art glass that respects and continues to reflect the very best of Belgian craftsmanship.

The stunning organic, minimalist design features a rolling, fluted body set with textured rolling/wave bands, intersected and contrasted between flat, clear-glass. The tri-form feet project equally from six ‘leaves’ (three of which are contrasted with the same texture as in the upper bands). The outside of the bowl is opalescent, the interior is clear – offering another interesting visual element to enjoy. A lovely element of its hand-made nature is the air-bubble forever trapped in one of the rises.

A smart and highly-collectable piece of Art Deco art glass.

In very good original condition, no cracks or chipping to any part of the main body. There is some fritting to each foot (as you’d expect from a vintage item and not modern reproduction) however given the low-slung nature of the design these are not prominent. Yes, the price takes this into account.

Measures 8.5cm (h) x 23cm (diameter) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. $75

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Swedish Mats Jonasson Signature Collection moulded lead crystal paperweight, most likely dating from the 1980’s. Vintage 20th Century (1980) Australian paperweight

by Julio Santos

$135

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Australian-made glass paperweight, created by Master Glass artist Portugese-Australian Julio Santos (1933 to 2019) and signed for 1980. Born in Marinha Grande, Julio commenced his long association with glass as a twelve-year old apprentice at the (now closed) Nacional Fábrica de Vidros. In his early thirties he became Master Glass blower at Dorsteenhutte Glass Works (Germany), where he stayed for five years before migrating to Australia in 1967. He then continued to extend his practice as both a working glass artist and tutor (in Newcastle and Melbourne). Julio’s skill and creative output was recognised by his native Portugal awarding him the Most Internationally Recognised Master Glass Blower (1998) and an honorary Masters Degree in 2005 (from Crisform, College of Glass Masters, Marinha Grande). Vintage 20th Century Italian Murano cobalt and silver gilt

glass bowl

$75

Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century Italian blown-mould glass and silver gilt serving/decorative bowl, most likely made on the Venetian island of Murano and dating from the 1920’s to 1950’s.

The charming design begins with its unusual moulded cobalt glass form (a fan-flute/frilled exterior with beaded rim edge). Over this has been hand-applied a repeating, two-panel classical Venetian design of scrolling foliate and angular-lozenge ‘window grille’ architectural elements. The central boss features a smaller version of the foliate panel found on the sides. Being hand-applied the artisanal decoration has resulted in a truly unique piece; with slight variations that no other example will have.

No chips or cracking. The base shows appropriate wear and evidence of having been blow-moulded and remaining pontil cut off and ground to produce a flat base. Some light oxidation has developed to the gilding (which you could gently polish if felt necessary).

Measures 9.5cm (h) x 25cm (diameter) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. 2 x Antique early-20th Century German Aesthetic Movement/Gothic Revival cobalt glass goblets by WMF

$295

Offered for sale is this matched pair of antique early-20th Century German Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) silver-plate dual-handle goblets with cobalt glass liners, dating from 1903 to 1910 (the ‘First’ Ostrich hallmark). This design was first produced by the factory in the late-19th Century (1886 to 1903), so very early in their history.

Lovely (and rare) to have a pair of these glorious examples of Aesthic Movement/Gothic Revival/Art Nouveau styling (and with liners).

The incredibly-detailed and high-quality design is a wonderful melange of all these artistic movements. Starting with organic, foliate handles featuring seated butterfly terminals, quatrefoils and ‘turned handle’ dividers that separate the upper and lower portions. The main body of the cup features a complicated pierced upper gallery with central ovoid bosses, allowing light through the liner – adding a sense of delicacy and elegance. Beneath this is a repeated band of rectangular lozenges with a stylised ‘Tree of Life’ motif. This leads the eye to a decorative base with repeated triumphal flowers, trefoils and heraldic shields. Stunning stuff.

Both show wear to the original silver gilding finish but no loss of original crisp detailing. Over time this wear has exposed the brass - that’s taken on it’s own attractive verdigris and deep patination. The butterfly on one handle has lost a wing (potentially a replacement could be moulded and attached) and one liner has a small chip/occasional frits, however the other is in excellent condition.

Each measures (with liner) 12.5cm (h) x 10.5cm (diameter, excluding handles) approximately.

RARE Antique 19th Century English moulded glass sugar bowl by Edward Moore

$25

Offered for sale is this rare antique 19th Century English moulded clear glass dual-handled pedestal sugar bowl, made by Edward Moore (Tyne Flint Glass works, South Shields) and dating from the 1880’s. Registered pattern 82606. Established in 1860 and in operation until 1913, the company became a highly successful and in-demand domestic and internationally renowned seller of high-quality moulded glassware. At the 1862 Crystal Palace Exhibition they were the only moulded glass maker to be included, and were awarded a Silver Medal at the 1869 Netherlands International Exhibition of Domestic Economy. They also showed at the 1879 Sydney International Exhibition.

In a charming Neo-Classical Revival form (modelled on ancient Greek and Roman examples) its shape has wonderfully tactile ropework twist handles and surrounding rim with heavy gadrooning to the base and sides. With the Scottish Thistle prominent in the overall design this appears to have perhaps been made for the (nearby) Scottish domestic market.

Perfect for holding pot pourri or sweets, candied fruits, nuts, etc.

In very good original condition, no chips or fritting. There is a small internal flaw (as pictured) that has occurred during the manufacture process and is not damage and the asking price takes into account. The original lid is not present.

Measures 9cm (high, including handles) x 15cm (diameter, excluding handles) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

RARE Antique late-19th/early-20th Century silverplate and moulded glass hair tidy

$45

Offered for sale is this rare antique late-19th/early-20th Century embossed metal and glass Hair Tidy, most likely dating from 1890 to 1914. The maker is unknown, but is most likely English, German or American in origin. Originally used by women to save their brushed hair for later use in creating the large, bouffant hairstyles of the late-Victorian and Edwardian eras.

The charming design features an (originally silver plated) embossed brass lid with the words ‘Hair Tidy’ surround by a Neo-Classical Revival floral wreath. The base is moulded with hobnail-cut style sides and a star-cut pattern underneath.

An unusual, sweet and stylish item for either pure decoration or return to practical use (could easily hold pens, pencils, jewellery, feathers, etc).

In very good original condition. The lid fits tightly (there is a small amount of patination, which confirms it being a correct vintage and not modern reproduction). The glass base has no cracks or chipping.

Vintage 20th Century Marie Theresa 10-arm chandelier restoration project

$125

Offered for sale is this impressive vintage 20th Century Marie Theresa 10-arm glass and metal chandelier, estimated to date from the 1940’s to early 1950’s. Despite extensive research, the maker is unknown but is most likely European in origin.

With restoration, this will become a stunning design accent for any home or business. Offered at a price that allows for choosing two paths: either a full restoration (rewiring, sourcing replacement pieces, re-gilding, etc) or (and this is my preference) testing first (rewiring only if necessary) and leaving the ‘shabby bougie chic’ patination that’s developed over a lifetime. And the pleasure of knowing you’ve given a quality vintage item a new lease of life!

Measures 72cm (w) x 40cm (d) approximately. Weighs at least 10kg-plus.

In excellent original condition.

2 x Vintage 20th Century French frosted goblets by ZODAX

$30

Offered for sale is this matched pair of vintage 20th Century French frosted glasses, identified as being made by ZODAX and dating from the 1990's. Not much is known of this company, however they are known to have sourced glass from both France and Portugal.

Their design is mostly likely modelled on ancient Greek or Roman wine glasses. It’s obvious these have been individually hand-made and not moulded (an unground pontil is present on both).

Attractive decorative pieces for a mantlepiece, sideboard or table. Or you could use to hold pot pourri, small sweets, candied fruit, etc.

One is in excellent condition, the other has two slight abrasions but no chipping (as pictured, and the price takes this into account).

Each measures 10.5cm (h) x 10cm (diameter, excluding handles) approximately.

Vintage 20th Century Italian 'HMS Bounty' drinks set (ice bucket/6 x tumblers/ice tongs) by CERVE

$45

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Italian ‘HMS Bounty’ etched-glass ice bucket and tumbler set, made by CERVE and most likely dating from the 1980’s to 1990’s. CERVE stated in 1953 and continues producing high-quality glassware today.

A curious and fun bit of nautical-themed bar accoutrements – very unusual to have the 18th Century mutiny of an English warship memorialised by an Italian glass company! HMS Bounty was of course captained by the (in)famous Captain Bligh; who then became an early governor of colonial New South Wales before being again (ironically) deposed from office during the 1808 Rum Rebellion.

All glass pieces have a repeated ‘Bounty’ title-plate and image of the ship (from two different views) etched onto each side.

Great decorative and useful set for any home-bar, pool-room, business (eg hipster dive bar) or lover of naval/tall ships history. Perfect for any descendant of the Bounty Mutineers – but maybe not Captain Bligh!

The set includes a set of original plastic ice-tongs and six tumblers.

No cracks, chips or damage.
