4 x Vintage 20th Century original Italian hand-coloured etchings of Bressanone/Brixen

$95

Offered for sale is this quartet of vintage 20th Century Italian original hand-coloured etchings, most likely dating from the 1960’s to 1970’s. Despite research no further information can be offered on the artist at this time, although all were originally retailed by Janek Glas Art (established 1912, still operating today).

Each features a different view of the distinctive and utterly charming Baroque Italian/Germanic architecture found in the stunning mountain resort town of Bressanone/Brixen in the South Tyrol region, Italy.

Each measures (framed) 13.2cm (h) x 18cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

As with any vintage watch I recommend allowing for a service. Where possible (or upon request) a physical inspection is available and always encouraged. 3 x Antique 19th Century (1839) French hand-coloured etchings

$95

Offered for sale is this trio of antique 19th Century French original hand-coloured etchings, all dating from 1839.

- The first depicts Château de Biron (located in the Dordogne départment). Etched by Christian Daniel Rauch and printed by Pierre Nicolas Ransonette. What is particularly charming about this work is that the artist has depicted themselves seated whilst viewing the castle to complete their design (mind you their assistant has to stand). There’s also two figures depicted on the outer walls – viewing the artist/viewing the castle/viewing them! So a nice touch of humour along with its excellent detail.
- The second is a highly-detailed image of Port Vendres in the Pyrénées-Orientales départment. Etched by Christian Daniel Rauch and printed by J Schroeder.
- Third is another richly-detailed image, showing the mountain-resort town of Cauterets (Hautes-Pyrénées départment). Etched by Cte du H and printed by J Schroeder.

A charming group to decorate any home or business.

In good condition overall (especially given these are almost 200 years old!). No tears or moth damage. All feature some light to medium foxing that could be removed by a paper conservator if required. This patination confirms them as being proper antique pieces and not modern reproductions.

Each measures (framed) 19.5cm (h) x 20.5cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. 2 x Vintage 20th Cent original Australian prints by listed artist Hilary Jackman

$125

Offered for sale is this pair of vintage 20th Century original poster-prints by listed Australian artist Hilary Jackman (1943 to present), most likely dating from the 1970’s. A well known and respected working artist, Hilary has been a successful painter of Contemporary still life and landscapes (in various scales, including murals) for many years. Early painting exploration as a teenager progressed to studying illustration at RMIT from 1960 to 1963. These two examples are copies taken from original ink-on-paper pieces created during the 1970’s; and as such represent an important (and currently less appreciated) phase of her artistic output. Hilary’s ouvre has been influenced by both her environmental surroundings and the broader artistic movement around Nillumbik Shire and the leafy outer Melbourne village of Eltham. She has participated in multiple solo and group exhibitions (as well as several overseas artist residencies) with works now held in public, private and corporate collections.

Each piece depicts two buildings from the famous Victorian artists colony of Montsalvat, inspired by Hilary’s time as artist-in-residence at the Mervyn Skipper Studio building on-site.

The first depicts a front view of The Barn (now a gallery, originally known as the ‘Boat Shed’ or ‘Red Brick Barn’), constructed by Justus Jörgensen around 1957 and completely rebuilt after a fire in 1996. In good original condition, there are two light water stains (as pictured) that the asking price takes into account.

The other is a view of one of the original farm buildings (possibly the old chicken shed which became the on-site schoolhouse in the 1940’s) and that now forms part of The Barn Gallery Courtyard. In excellent original condition.

Each measures (framed) 57.5cm (h) x 42.5cm (w) approximately.

Vintage 20th Century Japanese framed beer coasters

$45

Offered for sale is this pair of framed vintage 20th Century Japanese printed beer coasters (most likely produced for Asahi) and dating from the 1970’s.

Both designs are inspired (or taken from) original Ukiyo-E works of the 18th and 19th Centuries. Each portrays an image of a samurai; however these probably depict famous Kabuki actors playing historical characters.

The coasters have been block (and not merely dot) printed, so the colours are strong and reference the actual printing techniques of Ukiyo-E production.

Lovely decorative items for any home or business!

Nicely mounted in a gloss red and gold frame that attractively compliments the coasters.

Measures (framed) 31cm (w) x 20cm (h) approximately.

Antique 19th/Vintage 20th Century (est.) original decorative artwork

$45

Offered for sale is this (estimated) antique late-19th or vintage 20th Century original artwork (gouache and pencil on paper). Despite extensive research no further information can be offered on the artist, ‘A.L.’ at this time. Given the style and subject matter, the work reflects a broad range of potential influences, time periods and countries of origin (Europe, the Middle East, Asia or Australia).

Using a bold colour palate, the artist has created a stylised image of a large blue urn (on pedestal) filled with flowers and flanked by two separate garlands each supporting a small bird. The flowers are a potential mix of poppies, primrose, roses and daises. The work shows an overall Aesthetic Movement/Arts and Crafts/Neoclassical Revival style that could possibly place it as late Victorian-era. It may be influenced by artists such as Archibald Knox and William Morris and images of Ancient Roman or Greek mosaics.

A charming, bright and colourful decorative piece for any home or business.

In very good condition. Over time the paper has lightly foxed (with a few small water stains), that doesn’t detract but confirms it being a vintage item and not modern reproduction.

Measures (framed) 46.5cm x 32.5cm approximately.

Vintage 20th Century (1970) original Australian landscape painting by AH Lucas

$95

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Australian oil painting (on board) by artist A H Lucas and dating from 1970. Despite extensive research, no further information can be offered on A H Lucas at this time. It most likely depicts an actual location - possibly in the NSW Southern Highlands (especially along the M31 from Holbrook to Bowral), Flinders Ranges, Northern Territory or outback NSW.

In a charming, naive ‘Outsider Art’ style the artist has rendered a classical Australian outback landscape. The work appears either in awareness of (or heavily influenced by) the style of Hugh Schultz (a founding member of the Broken Hill-based ‘Brushmen of the Bush’) as well as referencing the broader domestic artistic movement to paint outback and rural life post-WW2. It has an overall whimsical, flattened look that creates a distorted perspective and distant view at the same time. Use of matt colours has nicely captured the red oxide of outback rocks and soil, its simply-rendered trees the natural silvery-grey hues of Gumtrees or Tea Tree foliage. And with scattered clouds and pale blue sky it effectively portrays a vast, open quality that outback visitors will appreciate as ‘how it looks’. Over time the original glaze has slightly yellowed to add another layer of visual interest.

Perfect for anyone who has a farm (or rural weekender) in any of the above regions, or collects original Outsider Art, Australian landscape painting or works of the ‘Brushmen of the Bush’.

Measures (framed) 60cm (h) x 50.5cm (w) approximately.

Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Vintage 20th Century (1993) original Ukrainian artwork

by V Shkilniy

$135

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century original mixed media artwork (gouache and watercolour on paper) by Ukrainian artist V Shkilniy (Б Шкільний) and dating from 1993. Despite extensive research, no further information can be offered on V Shkilniy at this time.

In a wonderfully loose, Impressionist style the artist has captured a classical Eastern European countryside scene of a small village next to a frozen river (or marshes) with Orthodox Church prominent. Their skilful hand and talent is evident in smartly capturing a moody, smutty sky and crunchy ice across a silent landscape. Occasional dashes of bright colour provide attractive highlights, perhaps suggesting that the thaw and transition towards Spring has slowly begun.

A charming and satisfying original artwork for any home or business.

Please note a donation of A$25 will be sent to the Australian Ukrainian Embassy when this painting is sold.

A previous owner has expensively framed this piece in a style that suits its colours perfectly.

In excellent original condition.

Measures 70cm (w) x 58.5cm (h) framed (approximately).

Vintage 20th Century original Australian Artists Proof print

by Peter Bowen

$145

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century original Artists Proof print by Australian artist Peter Bowen, estimated as dating from between 1986 to 1988. I’d like to acknowledge the following generously shared information from Peter’s friend and fellow artist Greg Fullerton (who also confirmed its authenticity and provenance as being exhibited in Melbourne alongside a variety of similarly-themed pieces (including a fireman and first aider)).

Peter was a vital, witty and energetic individual who engaged intensely in whatever he was passionate about. Born in 1939 to a Geelong family (that ran a chemicals firm), he was educated at Geelong Grammar as well as completing a Post-Grad Diploma of Education at Rusden (now Deakin University). A learned and knowledgable individual, coming late to realise his journey as an artist Peter showed typical commitment to this new passion by selling his Porsche, buying a run-down Holden ute and moved into an old dairy in Fitzroy. Influenced by 1960’s British art (particularly poster and photographic artwork), especially advertising and social/propaganda/community posters Peter however felt drawn to expression through printmaking/lithography. As a mature-age student (and like many Melbourne artists in the 1980’s and early 1990’s) he sought training at the Philip Institute Bundoora (now part of the RMIT), where he was exposed to a variety of tutors (such as Mirka Mora, Robert Drummond, Stanley Spencer, Harry Nankin and Grame Sutherland). This particular example of his output came about through a series of workshops he completed with the Australian Print Workshop (Fitzroy) during 1986 to 1988 (conducted variously by Dom De Clario, Peter Booth, Dale Hickey, Mike Brown and Nick Mortakis). His other great joy in life was sailing. Showing great artistic flair and obvious talent as a print-maker, unfortunately Peter passed away in October 1995 at the early age of 56.

In a naive, almost childlike-style (and strongly referencing his interest in social/propaganda posters) Peter has crafted an image of a bearded farmer working on a tractor. With its bold primary colours, at first viewing this can be taken as a simple, bright and fun expression of rural, hardworking Australian outdoor life. Because there is a motif (that also appears in his other contemporary pieces) which anchors the work as purely Australian – the rising sun. The localised use of this dates from the early-19th Century onwards, symbolising and galvanising the concept of ‘Advance Australia’ (and famously selected for Australian military use). So with further interpretation it suggests Peter is asking us to consider ideas around work, idealised rural life and wider concepts such as masculinity, mateship. With the sun on his back and sporting a bold, chiselled jawline and hairy chest, this wryly smiling farmer offers an image of strength, reassurance ...

Then begins the opportunity to investigate the more playful, hidden-in-plain-sight elements – where perhaps Peter’s trademark sense of humour is creeping in. Like placement of the sun behind the farmer’s head, like a halo framing him in modern expression of Sainthood, Jesus Christ and the Godhead. Expanding upon a simple motif to touch on classical, orthodox representations of Christianity and the divine.

The “brand” of the tractor (with a lightning bold logo – ‘aha’!); ‘Façadia’ - a nonsense word as no actual tractor maker has ever existed with this name. In all likelihood this is a play on the word ‘facade’. Adding to this is our farmer’s hat with its unusual radiating ‘petals’ around the brim – unlike any Akubra ever made! So at the same time as creating a powerful image of Australian rural life and masculinity, Peter is posing the important question: ‘Are you so sure about this blokey, idealised manhood stuff? It’s all a front mate. A facade, a farce. Look a bit deeper and you’ll see fragility. Perhaps something real.’.

As an Artists Proof copy this one-off example of Peter’s work is a satisfying, strong 20th Century original artwork and with its questions posed, still current today.

In excellent original condition.

Measures (framed) 56.5cm (h) x 46cm approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can post at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Accurate as possible description at time of listing, however like any secondhand watch it may need a service, and is sold without guarantee or return so please ask any questions before purchase (as any sale is final).

Antique 19th Century original childs portrait Gothic Spooooooky chic

$95

Offered for sale is this antique 19th Century original mixed media portrait of a young child, with an estimated date range (based on the clothing) from the 1840’s to 1870’s. Despite research, the identity of the artist and subject (if an actual portrait of an individual) is currently unknown however it’s most likely they are Caucasian in origin.

This charming (and definitely “Gothic” - given the style and current condition) artwork appears to be done by the hand of a highly talented amateur rather than professional artist. In a well-detailed (but slightly naive) style, the child has been portrayed having large, plaintive brown eyes, a rounded face with softly quiet expression and cherubic lips. The eyes are particularly noteworthy; as they seem slightly oversize and with their upwards gaze posses a mysterious ‘otherworldly’ quality – they attract your attention, and hold it.

Research indicated the style of clothing depicted appears as popular young childrens clothing (for either gender) from the early-to-mid 19th Century (open neck, high-sitting puffed sleeves and turned-lace collar). When conducting attribution research, it was noted that the paper appeared to be of thick, high quality weight (and possibly for watercolour). The image has been created using pencil, crayon, pastel and perhaps a small amount of watercolour.

Its overall style, quality, gaze of the sitter and heavily patinated state adds adds a great deal of charm and unusual, Gothic (even perhaps spooooooky) quality. You will not find another like this!

Please note (as pictured) there is foxing to paper and a light water stain (which a paper conservator could remove if desired).

Measures 35.5cm (h) x 28cm (w) framed (approx.).

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century (1998) original Outsider Art oil painting

$55

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century ‘Outsider Art’ original oil painting on artists board, dating from 1998. Despite extensive research, no further information on the painter (‘Trish’) can be shared at this time.

The unfiltered, raw creativity of Outsider Art often provides an unexpected, accidental and uniquely direct insight into the psychology of its creator. This is evident in this (at first) outwardly charming - then unsettling piece. With its bright, happy colour-scheme jam-packed with jolly dolls/puppets, circus characters, pirates, animals and figures of popular culture (Noddy is there, bottom left; and perhaps Rupert the Bear), all seems well.

Then the viewer slowly begins to realise that many are actually painted with sad, vacant or pained faces with eyes that express emptiness, terror and confusion (or with a sinister ‘forced joy’ expression). This externally bucolic image is actually uncomfortable for its characters; definitely not the most joyous. That subconscious darkness is what makes it a truly interesting piece of art.

Compressed for space and with seemingly no room to manoeuvre, to all intents and purposes they are trapped, suffocated. And perhaps so is Trish (because maybe you’ll find her depicted just below the mouse), looking miserable. I hope she escaped. I hope they all did.

In excellent original condition. Please note the painting will require framing.

Measures 45.5cm (w) x 60.5cm (h) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. 3 x UNIQUE Vintage 20th Century (1991) original

black-and-white photographs of New Orleans French Quarter

$95

Offered for sale is this unique trio of original vintage 20th Century black-and-white photographs, taken in 1991 during a visit to New Orleans, Louisiana (USA) by an Australian tourist. They are most likely the only examples printed and one-off reproductions.

This fascinating group details a series of images from the world-famous French Quarter of New Orleans. The first is taken on the corner of Royal and St Ann Streets and captures the front of ‘Pere Antoine’ (a famous cajun restaurant) looking west across to the shopfronts of St Ann. The second captures an external view of the Royal Sonestra Hotel on Bourbon Street. The last is looking southwards along a series of restaurants (on Decatur Street) with 400 Poydras Street tower in the far background.

All these images are a time-capsule of New Orleans before the destruction wrought in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.

Perfect for home or business decoration.

Each measures 36cm (w) x 31cm (h) (framed) approximately.

Antique 20th Century original oil painting of cherries

$95

Offered for sale is this antique 20th Century original oil-on-canvas painting, most likely dating from 1900 to the 1920’s. Despite extensive research, further information on the artist (D Stoffers) is unavailable at this time – however given their surname they most likely originate from northern Germany or the Netherlands.

In a charming Impressionist, natural style the artist has skilfully created an image of ripe cherries hanging on the branch and ready to harvest. Their use of light to depict the rich gloss of the cherries and lush foliage shows a natural talent, deftness and skill that deserves and brings the viewer’s attention.

A satisfying and original work of art for any home or business (especially if you’re a cherry grower!).

In very good original condition. There are a couple of very tiny losses (hard to spot but want to note for a full description).

Measures (framed) 48.5cm (h) x 28cm (w) approximately.

Vintage 20th Century original Ferrari 750 Monza Mille Maglia advertising print

$35

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Ferrari ‘750 Monza’ print, most likely dating from the late-1950’s. Research indicates these were originally produced for either affixing to plastic model kit boxes, featured in a period model kit catalogue or appeared in automotive magazine advertisements. Removal from the frame for inspection revealed an MG 1500 on the reverse (as well as confirming it being a correct printed item and not modern reproduction) - another version features a XK140 Jaguar on the reverse.

In a charming 1950’s-advertising style, the design features a 1954/55 Ferrari 750 Monza (in Maranello Gallo yellow) powering its way out of a rain-covered, sweeping left bend – exciting! With haybales placed along the road it’s depicted racing in the original Italian Mille Maglia (before its last official running in 1957).

Perfect for decorating any home (a child’s bedroom, library) or business (especially a garage, vintage car workshop or man/lady-cave).

The print is in very good original condition, no fading or tears. The current frame required a small repair to make firm but still works perfectly well. Please note there is a very small crack in the bottom left-hand of the glass (hard to spot but want to note for a full description).

Measures (framed) 30.5cm (w) x 21.5cm (h) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century original Australian Mid-Century Modern relief-carved panel

$95

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century Australian-made relief-carved wooden hanging panel, made in Melbourne and most likely dating from the 1950’s to 1960’s. There is a label on the reverse that identifies the creator as Enid Hodkinson of Lower Templestowe. Despite research am unable to offer further information on Enid’s work at this time – although it is rare (especially from this time period) to see a piece of vintage wood-carving that can be attributed to a female artist.

In a Mid-Century Modern style, from a single piece of softwood Enid has expertly crafted a stylised image of a tall pitcher and stand of lillies. It would have taken many hours of careful work to render this smart, original work of art!

A charming decorative item for home or business. Would be a perfect compliment to any Boyd home or 1950-60’s apartment.

In excellent original condition.

Measures 85.5cm (h) x 31cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

2 x Antique 18th Century (1747 & 1749) original French

hand-coloured etchings by Jean Moryeau

$295

Offered for sale is this pair of antique mid-18th Century French hand-coloured etchings by Jean Moryeau, mounted in vintage 20th Century Italian gilt frames. Moyreau (1690-1763) was a French Old Masters Artist who made a career as both painter and engraver of original and copied works.

The first etching is titled ‘La Diligence Holandoise’ (The Dutch Stagecoach), published in 1747. Translated the full dedication reads, ‘Engraved after an original painting by Pieter Wouwerman two feet wide by ? (sic) feet high which is in the room of Monsieur Crosat [Marquis] De Tugny, President of Parliament. At the Paris house of Moyreau engraver to the king, St Jacques Street at the old post office opposite Plâtre Street’. This image is taken from the original 17th Century Old Dutch Master work by Pieter Wouwerman titled, ‘De halte voor de herberg’ (The stop in front of the inn). The busy scene depicts a covered coach outside a rustic inn, with passengers and horses resting before their journey continues. All of this is set in a rural landscape with livestock, farmers and fishermen all engaged in day-to-day activity. Pieter Wouwerman (1619-1668) was a versatile and prolific artist from the Dutch Golden Age and regarded as an expert in equestrian paintings.

In very good original condition, there is a slight fold to the bottom right of the etching but no tears or losses. Measures (framed) 52.5cm (w) x 42.5cm (h) approximately.

The second etching is also by Moyreau after another Wouwerman work. Published in 1749 and titled, ‘L’abreuvoir Hollandois’ (The Dutching watering place/hole (or waterers/bathers)). Translated the title reads, ‘Engraved after an original painting by Pieter Wouwerman of twenty-one inches six lines wide, about seventeen inches high. Which is in the room of Monsieur De La Haye tax farmer [collector]. 1749. With the privilege of the king.’. Despite extensive research, the original work by Wouwerman cannot currently identified, however the De La Haye mentioned is most likely Marin De La Haye (1684-1753). New arrivals (soldiers and lookers-on) appear to be either waiting their turn or about to take the plunge! A busy scene with lots of action.

Vintage 21st Century (2004) original Chinese Brush artwork

by Robyn Cameron

$85

Offered for sale is this vintage 21st Century original Chinese-brush and ink painting, created by Robyn Cameron and dating from 2004. Despite extensive attribution research (and Robyn being an obviously talented artist) am currently unable to offer further information on her at this time.

Anyone who’s ever attempted working with Chinese brushes will appreciate the difficulty in mastering these unique artist’s tools. What may appear simple, humble brushstrokes takes many years to learn - this piece demonstrates Robyn’s high skill in such a challenging medium. This confidence is also reflected in choosing to sign the work with her own Chinese Seal stamp.

The work exemplifies Paul Klee’s ‘taking a line for walk’ phrase. With soft watery washes, fluid deft strokes and merest of suggestion Robyn has outlined a seated figure at rest. The darker, somewhat jagged shadow acts both as visual anchor and draws the eye in slight discord. This is someone who knows their stuff!

The figure appears to be wearing robes, with the hat outline suggesting they may come from the Middle East (perhaps Central/Eastern).

A balanced, contemplative and well proportioned work of art.

Has been professionally framed and ready to hang, nothing to spend.

Measures (framed) 51cm (h) x 29.5cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century original Indonesian Rumah Gadang copperart boho retro chic

$35

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century hand-embossed copper art plaque, most likely Indonesian-made and dating from the 1960’s to 1970’s.

The one-off design features a group of four stylised ‘Rumah Gadang’, classical longhouses found in West Sumatra. The double-pointed gable-ends are culturally endemic to the Minangkabau people and are meant to represent bulls horns. Surrounding the houses are palm trees and a full moon.

The cute thing about this artwork is that the two plants at the bottom can look a bit like bizarre spiked wheels – so it has a quirky ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’/steampunk interpretation at first glance.

Measures (framed) 25.5cm x 25.5cm approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Vintage 20th Century original linocut/woodblock print

$60

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century original linocut/woodblock print artwork, most likely by an Australian creator. Despite extensive research, am unable to offer further information on the artist at this time (but note this was framed by Macarthur Gallery, Ballarat).

The scene depicts a raucous, Bacchanalian moment of celebration and entertainment. In a distorted perspective five grotesque, exaggerated figures are represented: drinking, orating, performing, playing music and spectating. The work may represent an expression of the Dramatic Arts, perhaps with reference to classic Greek Tragedies. It looks a wild moment at the very least. One figure (holding both fingers in their ears) appears to be an evil clown, so perhaps not one for the coulrophobiacs! The colour toning is a muted brown and blue.

A fun and humorous original work for home or business decoration.

Measures (framed) 29cm (h) x 33cm (w) approximately.

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Vintage 20th Century original Australian artwork

by Jan Barnett

$195

Offered for sale is this vintage 20th Century original artwork by Australian artist Jan Barnett, dating from the late 1970’s to early 1980’s. Doing attribution research, I’d like to thank Jan - who kindly authenticated the work and generously provided her CV which now forms part of its ongoing history. Commencing formal studies in 1959, Jan initially worked for five years as a graphics artist/illustrator before becoming a full-time artist in the mid-1960’s (based in the Melbourne area). Eventually moving to Berrigan (NSW) she opened Sojourn Station Art Studio. As well as being an art tutor, during her career Jan has exhibited extensively (winning several awards) with paintings acquired by numerous civic, corporate and private collections. I’d also like to thank Glenn Vardy (the original framer) and Marina from ‘Frames Now’ (Bayswater, Melbourne) for their assistance.

This charming mixed media still-life reveals both Jan’s skill and training (as a graphic illustrator) as well as artistic creativity. At the centre sits a large Ikebana display of pink Chrysanthemum, providing our core focus point. This then allows the viewer to discover and appreciate the other objects – to the left a statue of a Chinese Scholar, to the right an unusual silver-chained bowl with brightly-coloured Chinese doll draped across. The level of detail is extremely high, with excellent emphasis on light and shadow.

Painted on high quality Italian C.M.Fabriano paper. There is some light foxing present, which could be addressed (if felt necessary) by a professional paper conservator.

Measures 58cm (h) x 68.5cm (w) framed (approx.).

Please check the photos as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. Antique 20th Century (1914) original English ink-on-paper of the Norman Stairs, Kings College (Canterbury)

by D Pimm

$75

Offered for sale is this antique early 20th Century English original ink-on-paper artwork, drawn in 1914 by artist D Pimm. Despite being obviously talented, after extensive research no further information can be offered on Pimm at this time.

In a skilful and detailed architectural style it shows an image of the famous 12th Century Norman Stairs at Kings College, Canterbury. This location may possibly indicate Pimm was a student at Kings.

With the date of creation being 1914 it delivers a powerful historical message - this being the first year of WW1. Was Pimm one of the millions who died in the trenches? Or did he survive, live a happy and full life?

Measures (framed) 23.5cm (h) x 28cm (w) approximately.

2 x Antique early-19th Century (1827) English George VI Regency etchings

$40

Offered for sale is this pair of antique 19th Century English Regency (George IV) hand-coloured etchings, published in 1827 by Jones & Co. (‘London and its Environs in the Nineteenth Century illustrated by a series of views Vo1. 1’) from original engravings by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (1792 to 1864). As provenance, at one time these were sold through Pierre Fornari Pty Ltd, Melbourne (which operated from 1926 to 1937). Interestingly in 1937 (as Fashion Director for the iconic Georges Department Store) Milan-born Fornari would play a large impact on the career of famous Australian textile designer Frances Burke.

The first is titled ‘Cheapside, Poultry & Bucklersbury.’. Located in (what is now) the financial heart of London, this image (although unrecognisable today) most likely provides an eastern-view looking from where Bank Tube Station is now.

The second is named ‘Shaftesbury House, Aldersgate Street’. Today nothing remains of this lively streetscape as captured by Shepherd.

Both offer a wonderfully high level of detail of Regency street-life, capturing inner-London with all its bustle and activity. As people rarely washed back then, and with streets full of filth and sewage it’s a good thing these don’t capture the smell!

At almost 200 years old each are in overall reasonable condition. The first etching has a small mark and the second some foxing (as pictured) – which is reflected in the price.

Each measures 24.5cm (w) x 24.5cm (h) framed (approx.).

Vintage 20th Century original Australian watercolour by listed artist Arnold Jarvis

$275

Offered for sale is this antique/vintage 20th Century original watercolour by listed Australian artist Arnold Henry Jarvis (1881 to 1959). Titled ‘Gums at Woodside, S.Aust.’ this work likely dates from the 1920’s to 1950’s. Born in Adelaide, Arnold lead a fascinating life both as circus performer and popular working artist. His ouvre developed into creating classical Australian bush landscapes in the ‘en plein air’ style of Hans Heysen and Heidelberg School.

The charming image most likely depicts a view looking west towards the Adelaide Hills (Mount Lofty/Basket Range).

The work appears in very good original condition with little/no fading. The mount card has some foxing (that could be conserved or replaced in the future).

Measures (framed) 34.5cm (h) x 37cm (w) approximately.

Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Original Australian contemporary artwork by Jenny Dean

$60

Offered for sale is this original modern mixed media on paper artwork, by Australian artist Jenny Dean. Despite extensive research, am currently unable to offer further information on Jenny (however the work has been submitted for competition – recorded on the reverse).

Perhaps influenced by modern Australian artists such as Chris Canning, Margaret Preston and Brett Whiteley (reaching further back, Van Gogh) using an Impressionist/Contemporary style Jenny has taken a bold, reduced colour palate to create a classical still life. However there’s more to this work than a warmly-toned bowl of quince and refracted carnation perched in a jug. To the bottom right is a Paleolithic ‘Venus’ style figure, suggesting that Jenny is actually asking us to reflect upon ideas of domesticity, fecundity, body and female power.

Measures (framed) 50cm (h) x 60cm (w) approximately.

Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description. Please note the address and contact number on the reverse was blurred for privacy reasons.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee. RARE antique early-19th Century original French hand-coloured etching of Warrane/Sydney Harbour

$245

Offered for sale is this rare antique early-19th Century French original hand-coloured etching of Warrane (Sydney) Harbour, dating from the mid-1820’s. The artist was Pierre Eugene Aubert (1789 to 1847), with the plate engraved and published by Gilquin Dupain (19 Rue de la Calandre, Paris).

An early view of the fledgling settlement, with the newly-finished Saint James’ church prominent. This most likely means Aubert created the image looking south-west from Cremorne across the harbour. To the right of Saint James’ is Bennelong Point - one day to become the location of the globally iconic Sydney Opera House.

If you’re one of the lucky few that live along Sydney Harbour (even more so if you have this particular multi-million view), this rare outsider’s glimpse of early Australian colonial history is a must-have.

In excellent original condition at 200+ years old.

Please check the pictures as they form part of the item description.

Cash or direct deposit sale only. Can freight at buyers expense (must include insurance for damage or loss) or can personally deliver to Macedon Ranges, Melbourne, Geelong or Ballarat CBD’s for a fee.
